after climbing King three years ago in the spring, I came back to get the actual highpoint (and P2K) North King. as mentioned, the trail leaving the upper parking area at 8000ft or so is relentlessly steep- the first 2000 vertical feet are on one of the steepest trails I have ever been on. To my amazement, I was passed by a runner on the uphill section. There is a short class 3 section before King that, while easier than when snow covered, still contains a lot of loose rock. The traverse to North King is straightforward- interesting that the actual highpoint of this mountain has no cairn at all but King peak lower down has a huge cairn and multiple registers. Worth noting that to drive to the upper trailhead, you definitely want 4wd and probably low gearing. Sane people might park at the lower launch site.
