Re: MysteriousThe unknown factor here was whether I could make it to the summit and back in an hour and a half. I did make it above the third major cliff band but strong wind and snow along with route finding issues made me time out.

DudeYou are killing me here. Is this the small peak that is kind of separated from the main peninsula on the north side of Highway 54 between Olafsvik and Grundarfjordur? If so, I drove by this drooling but it looked like it was on somebody's farmland so I didn't dare try to get out there. If you are going to tell me it's the same peak and is open to the public, I may cry. This was such a cool looking peak. Let me know if you put a page up for it as I would have some photos to contribute. Any more Iceland photos coming?

Sorry to upset you, but yes this is the same peak. I scoped it out before my trip and I was able to find at least one trip report in which some guys made it to the summit. They said that there are fixed ropes in all the toughest sections on the cliff bands. On my attempt I estimate that I made it to about 300 meters (above the 3rd major cliff band) before I ran out of time. I saw two of the fixed ropes but they didn't appear trustworthy. Those narrow down-sloping grass ledges are pretty exciting and the route is not at all obvious.
When I first started from the car, I walked right past the owners of one of those red houses which are visible. They looked at me but didn't seem to care. But then later in Grundarfjörður I heard that it is forbidden to climb without a guide since people have been killed in failed attempts. My plan was to make a page for the peak but without having been to the summit I am reluctant to do that. I have a lot of photos from this area and I will try to post more of them in the coming week.
