Kodachrome Basin State Park

Kodachrome Basin State Park

Chimney Rock is the feature that brought national attention to this area back in the 40's (according to an info plaque located next to the structure-Kodachrome Basin earned its name when National Geographic photographers came here in the late 1940's, to test out a new type of color film.) A road takes you to the base of this feature and is but a short drive from where the campground is located. 8-26-09

Is there...

really a chimney/wide fracture on this rock?
I also see that it's leaning a little.

Great photo, Dean.

Re: Is there...

It does lean a bit and I didn't look for a chimney. I think the name comes from the idea that it looks more like a house chimney ( ?? )
