Route Description

From Gressoney La Trinitè (1.624 m., pop. 170), look for trail n. 10. After about 30/40 min follow 10C marks. Walk a steep trail in a deep wood. Once ended the wood, there are avalanches protectors over your head. The footpath turn right (NW direction) to cross a wet little open valley. Take care to observe to the very steep grass before ending the crossing. Arrived at Hogger Stein (2.313 m., 1h30min/1h45min), great sightseen on Monte Rosa south face, follow for about 50 meters the direction to Monte Rothorn, then turn left on a grass ridge. The trail come back on that steep grass rise mentionned before. At about 2.500 m. there is a rock jump: a fixed rope help to climb it (easy). Crossing beautiful meadows facing Monte Rosa, the trail lead hiker to Cozzi bivouac ruins (about 2.650 m., 2h45min/3h00 min). After this point the trace is weak. Follow yellow paint signs and "stony gnomes". Leaving Cozzi ruins, walk heading to main ridge (SW direction), pass a very steep stoneyground, then turn again NW direction. Another very steep rise on easy rocks, allow to get to a no-name pass (3.124 m. - 4h00min) between Testa Grigia and Monte Pinter. To climb Testa Grigia turn right, to reach Ulrich Lateltin bivouac turn left (10 minutes). The last meters for the no-name pass could be very dangerous if snow is still there.
Last effort for the summit. The trail goes on with good traces over the large ridge. As summit becomes closer, the ridge becomes narrow and aereal. A couple of "gendarmi" served by fixed ropes help to climb on them. After these little difficulties, in 10 minutes the summit will be reached. Take a big breath and enjoy the awesome panorama. Testa Grigia, 3.315 m., 4h45min/5h00min.
