Chogoria to Sirimon  Sucess!

Used a variation of the Chogoria route with no other trekkers in any days, except on Old Moses, since we went down the Sirimon route. Gorgeous views and very easy climb. Also used it as acclimatization to Kili, but found it much prettier!

amazingly scenic hike  Sucess!

Hiked in via the amazingly scenic Chogoria route with a guide (no porters), did the summit circuit and then Lenana the next day. Ascended by the normal route and then came down the north ridge. The normal route had crappy conditions: a layer of ice with half an inch of fresh snow on top. My guide cut steps with my ice ax until we reached the cables leading to the summit. Conditions on the north ridge were much more friendly.

normal route  Sucess!

I climbed the normal route. I was quite surprised by the rapid receeed of the Lewis Glacier, which will probably disappear in a not too distant future. The access to the last 100m of Lenana could still require some precautions if there's is some snow or ice but the way is now well equiped with cables.

Nice view for this trekking peak.

Chogoria Route to Pt Lenana, Sirimon Route Down  Sucess!

Amazing five-day trek and my first real experience with a mountain. The views from Lenana are what got me started with climbing!

Naru Moru route

Two hours after landing in Nairobi we were already heading to Naru Moru park entrance. We made it in two days to the Austrian hut, where I started to have quite severe altitude sickness (arriving from 100 meters...) and had to retreat with dizzyness as Lenana was also covered with snow. Very nice flora and fauna!

Sirimon route  Sucess!

1,5 day from Timau to the summit and back. Sirimon route up and on the way back i've lost a track, so i've had to continue through jungle, quite hard. Maybe 8 km north from shipton a buffalo attacked me. One of the strongest experience in my life.

Route: Unknown  Sucess!

We stayed the first night at a hut a few hours from the entrance and from there went up to another which was just below the summit through a long valley, full of plants. We were making good time so decided to go up to the summit that evening and arrived just before sunset, then stayed at the hut just below. We had porters/guides, which made it quite a bit easier!

Twice

I soloed this peak from Shipton's camp prior to attempting the Nth Face Std route, whilst my partner lay moaning in the tent with mild altitude sickness.
I did it again with my wife and another friend 4 years later as part of a circuit of the main peaks.

Happy New Year!  Sucess!

Did Lenena from Naro Moru. The same route for descent. We were on the summit just in time to meet the first sunrise of the New Year. Very beautiful place. And great acclimatization before Kilimanjaro

My First Ever Summit  Sucess!

Still the mountain that holds the fondest place in my heart. Caroline and I took a stroll up this mountain many years ago completely unaware of what we were doing and what trouble we could get into. But as it turned out, everything was fine and we had the most amazing time. I was successful to Point Lenana (which is not actually the top). However, I am pretty sure I will head back to Kenya someday to tag the real summit

Chogoria - Met Station  Sucess!

One of my finest mountaineering experiences, together with my girlfriend at the time.
Incredible, how many people failed because they simply did not bother for acclimatization. I loved the birdwatching in the rainforest and the moorland :-)

Route Climbed: Chogoria Route Date Climbed: August 2, 2002  Sucess!

Ran out of money, had only enough money for two days to stay in the park and do Lenana. One of the most adventurous two days I had while in Africa. While hiking to the top I video tape the landscape along the way. The terrain is like going up in the Sierra's.
