Hasn't voted | I think there are two populations of dead trees there. 1- a population of 30 year old burnt stumps and 2- a separate population of bark beetle kills.

What do you mean "Dogs packin'?" Backpacking or packing heat? If packing heat - our dogs don't have opposable thumbs, so - we do that for them.
This area has not yet suffered from the dreaded beetle issues, thank goodness!
