Jacob's Ladder  Sucess!

Almost completely snow-free to Enniss Peak, then almost completely snow to the summit. A nice climb, which I would probably do often if I had the misfortune to live near Salt Lake. Trip report.

Very Popular  Sucess!

Around this date. Been a while. Went with the Wasatch Mountain Club so as not to get lost. One of my first great ideas when I moved to Utah was to hike Lone Peak solo without a map or any water. Coming from AZ I assumed I could handle any heat and had a lot of desert hiking under my belt, but I have become wiser after that day. And also tougher. Surprising so many make it up there as so many get lost, but a grand summit to be certain and one I'd like to go up and camp near the cirque of one spring when there is still snowmelt to collect and drink. Very dry in late summer. Go early.

Lone peak

You can see your vehicle for miles coming down. So close.... yet so far away.

fresh snow  Sucess!

14 Oct 2015: via Jacob's Ladder with WMC group (w/SC Grant).

#2: January 31 2015: my first winter ascent (again WMC). Real winter mountaineering! From Orson Smith TH and back (partially Draper Ridge): 12 hr day. Thanks to Moogie737 for organizing this hike! #3: September 9 2018: w/Akiko and gang (WMC). Up Jacob's Ladder, down Cherry/Bear Canyons trail past 'outlaw cabin'- now all I need is a spring summiting. #4: 2 September 2020: w/Dennis & Barb via Cherry Canyon logging trail/Draper Ridge (10 hrs total). #5: Sept 30 2023, via new & improved Jacobs Ladder trail, w/Andy.

Great Climb -- Perfect Weather  Sucess!

My sister and I took the Jacob's Ladder route up and down for a great Labor Day hike. There were plenty of pleasant hikers on the trail, and everyone had an enjoyable time at the summit.

I expected at least 10-12 hours to do the hike, but we finished in barely over 8. Not bad for a couple of casual hikers!

This hike is a great workout! I'm curious...has anyone worn a BodyBug to measure how many calories you burned? It's got to be an impressive amount of calories, even starting the hike at the higher Jacob's Ladder trail head.

Jacobs ladder is brutal in the heat of the summer  Sucess!

Such an amazing mountain, the granite formations were amazing and the scramble to the summit was fun. Definitely my favorite of the seven peaks. If you climb Lone Peak on a hot summer day make sure to bring lots of water and stash water on the trail so you do end up like me and have to descend Jacobs ladder in 100 degrees with no water.

Lone Peak  Sucess!

2/11/2016 Hiked up with Michael Hannan as part of his scouting effort before his weekend WMC hike. Great conditions on the way up made for a quick ascent. By early afternoon it got very warm, near 50, and conditions on the hike out were a bit slushy in the melting snow. Awesome winter ascent on a clear, warm day.
9/15/2013 Via Cherry/ Bear Canyons past the Outlaw Cabin to the granite rock formations known as the "Half Pipe". Followed the ridge from there up and down to the summit. 7th ascent and I don't think I've gone the same way twice.
1/26/2013 Winter ascent with the Wasatch Mountain Club. First ascent of Lone Peak in the winter. Truly an amazing experience. The approach was by way of Cherry Canyon to Enniss Peak and on.
10/14/2012 Via Jacobs Ladder. Climbed with WMC. A fair amount of snow on the trail and summit ridge made for an exciting climb.
7/28/2012 Via Cherry Canyon Logging Trail/ Bear Canyon.
6/29/2012 Via Jacobs Ladder.
10/1/2011 Via Jacobs Ladder.
8/14/2000 Via Jacobs Ladder. As part of a backpack with my dad.

Jacob's Ladder sounded so enticing...  Sucess!

But it wasn't. I would like to thank my friend Robert for making sure we did this section in total darkness, at 2:30am, so that I couldn't see how long and unappealing this section was. I was considering giving in and heading back, concerned that the entire trip would look like this scrub oak hell when we emerged into a meadow. Which I did not see as much as feel, the open space could literally be felt. We summited about 10:30 am, no record breaking pace to be sure. Someone was up there just finishing scrubbing off some graffiti. In the end, it was all worth it. Until we went back down Jacob's Ladder. In the daylight, it is no better. Buddy had bloody feet, but I escaped with nothing more than tired legs.

Tought haul in winter

Collapsing rotten sugar snow underneath snowshoes in March. 1/4 mile an hour at the upper cirque. Winter snow conditions must be wind-blasted ribs or sun-baked exposed rocks in late winter for this route to go.

The Pucker Peak  Sucess!

Started up through Jacob's Ladder with my good friend Eric (imontop) and another friend. It was a beautiful hike. Trees, water, snow, scrambling and an impressive peak with 650+ foot drops on three of the four sides. Will do it again for sure

Sunrise hike  Sucess!

Hit the Cherry Canyon Trail around midnight with Daniel and his golden retrievers Belle and Timber. Made it to the summit around 6am, hung out for an hour watching the sunrise, a cold, beautiful experience. Followed the drainage directly below the cirque on the way back, but then Daniel decided to take a bushwhack back to the trail. Not fun. Miraculously found the trail again just below the stream crossing and was back at the car around 11am. An awesome way to end the summer the day before school restarted.

Big Mountain!  Sucess!

Summited via Jacobs Ladder with Sp'er Aldocious and another friend. Wow! Beautiful place. There is definately some "airy" spots on that final ridge.

Via Cherry Cyn  Sucess!

Started at the Cherry Cyn Trailhead, hiked to the log cabin. Followed a trail behind the cabin to the ridge, dropped down and followed trail markers to the next ridge, made the mistake and descended into the gully then followed it up to the ridge. Easier to stay high above the gully and traverse across to the ridge (what I did on the return trip).

Long Day  Sucess!

Started up the Jacob's Ladder trail about sunrise. From the cirque, we went south and then back up to the summit. This added some distance but gave us some good views of mountain goats. After our rest at the top, we dropped down into Bell Canyon which looked amazing with its fall colors. Reached the car after dark.
