Looking back up at the...

Looking back up at the mountain after our climb on June 15, 1975. The Forsythe Glacier was our ascent route, and the Dog's Head, on the left, was our descent route. Note the glissade track coming off the top of the Dog's Head. That was the most exhilarating glissade I can remember, with the trough sometimes being so deep I couldn't reach the surface of the snow while seated in the trough.

Some nice historical shots of the mountain!



We also fondly remember the glissade troughs.



Suggestion - you should consider adding a section for historical (pre-1980 eruption) photos on the mountain page.

Thanks Corey! Actually, I lost track of those slides a couple or three years ago, and suddenly found them. My old film scanner would not have handled them very well, but the new one I got for Christmas worked quite well with them. I did take a shot from the summit, but haven't scanned it yet because it's not very good. I think there were 12 frames on the roll of film, and I didn't have an extra roll. The camera was borrowed too, as I didn't have my own SLR until two years later! -Bob

What a great treasure to have experienced St. Helens, and taken those shots when you did. Makes me want to hike more around Rainier just in case.

When Rainier blows,

there's going to much more disappearing than the head of a dog. Great photos, Bob! I love ALL of them. Need to get my SCANNER warmed up!
