Looking down Arrastra Gulch,...

Looking down Arrastra Gulch,...
Looking down Arrastra Gulch, the Silver Lake trail switchbacks through great slopes of debris that has tumbled down off of the cliffs of Little Giant's north ridge. Be alert for rockfall when traversing this area. The Mayflower Mine portal, the last and highest of parking possibilities, can be seen as well as the narrow and steep 4WD approach road. County road 110 lies far below. Summer, 1983.

When we hiked up to Silver Lake a in 2005, there were several baseball sized rocks that came down this area while we were crossing the scree. You can hear them coming, just be careful!
