Looking down
Looking down at one of the few roads crossing the Tian Shan. The pass is at about 4000m. I'm on top of a small peak close to the pass.

Those switchbacks remind me of some of the ones in Europe on Le Tour.

This particular climb would be a real challenge for all the Tour cyclists. It's one of the longer in the world. Start at 800m and the pass is at 4050m. Some very steep sections, which even Pantani (hail and RIP) would've liked.

It's a great ride. The changes from where you start are extraordinary. Desert - sandy hills - a long canyon - green meadows - pine forest - alpine area with glaciers.
