Looking south from the highpoint

Looking south from the highpoint

Looking into Nevada from the Stevenson benchmark. I was intrigued by the wavey textures on those dune-like hills in the midst of very different terrain. August 31, 2003.

Is this the desert

Dean was referring to? The Alvord?
It does look like an amazing place.
Probably has loads of antelope, too!
Thank you for posting, Bob!

Gotta LOVE those county mounties!

Re: Is this the desert

I'm not sure how far the Alvord Desert extends, although I didn't think it included the dune-like area. But what do I know?

You know the summit

of Bonanza, and the beautiful
backcountry of Jefferson. The ones
with glaciers on them, and the
sleeping stratavolcanoes. You
know the route to take, when
ascending & descending Kings Peak
in Utah. You know how to properly
HANDLE a Camp Robber!

A lot of people think that desert
areas are void of houses, which
they often ARE ... but they're
NEVER VOID of BEAUTY & SOLITUDE.

Re: You know the summit

OK, I confess that I do know something. And you're so right, the desert areas have a beauty of their own. It took me a long time to begin to enjoy the desert, living and recreating as I do so near to the greatest alpine country in the lower 48. But now I realize that all mountains are wonderful and worthy to be visited and enjoyed.
