Los Pajares path in Tenerife is now CLOSED (May 2019)
We have just returned from Tenerife. We intended to walk the Los Pajares trail, which we have done in several previous years. The start of the trail, by a bend in the Santiago to Masca road, is now completely barred by high wire fencing and various notices saying "Private estate, No trespassing, Authorized persons only, This trail is closed". There is no obvious way to circumvent this fence. I spoke to a local man in Masca about it and he seemed reluctant to discuss the reasons for the closure. This is a great shame as the trail is one of the more spectacular on the island, and sometimes the nearby farm releases a large flock of picturesque goats which can be observed spreading out over the hillside and along the trail itself, with the unique sound of their bells tinckling across the valleys.
