I really enjoyed this! The summit area definitely got my attention. I did it OK in boots, but a pair of rock shoes would have added some confidence. My partner, who had done it before, chickened out and skipped the summit. It was a nice surprise to find such an interesting challenge so close to home and so close to parking.
Saw Marines doing maneuvers Date Climbed: Sep 1, 2013
My first 3/4 route and it was a bit nerve-racking. Bob Burds info from his trip report was very valuable for finding the route. On my way to the trailhead I saw a couple hundred marines at attention receiving instruction. On the way out I saw them running through bushes and diving for cover. Cool stuff.
I have climbed it three times, each time taking a route up the middle of the west face of the summit block. On one of those occasions I climbed Wells Peak first, and hiked cross-country to approach Lost Cannon Peak from the west.
