Lucifer Sam?
"Lucifer Sam, siam cat..
Always sitting by your side,
Always - by your side.
That cat's something I can't explain ..."

The bobcat is both more common and more widely distributed in the Sonoran Desert than the mountain lion. It hunts smaller prey and can more easily adapt to marginal habitats.

This small cat, (though twice the size of a house cat), is solitary, avoiding other bobcats; and it is also careful to avoid mountain lions, which will kill it.

The bobcat is a good climber, retreating to trees for safety, but it prefers to hunt on the ground. The bobcat is mostly nocturnal; like the lion, it is secretive and shy, usually keeping to the more thickly vegetated areas and therefore not often seen by people.

Have you had a close encounter with "Lucifer Sam," lately ???

What a beauty! Even though a Lynx took my lovely cat Sasha for a few years ago I adore these big wild cats. So amazingly gracious, strong and beautiful... I would love to meet one in the wild - Lucky you!
Happy New Year!

Christina, I'm sorry about your dearly
departed Sasha.

Yes, I too admire the BIG cats, and find them
to be very captivating. Also, they are very
strong, and could likely tear me into little
pieces, and leave me to the Vultures.

Hopefully, my karma will not allow that to
happen anytime soon! HAPPY NEW YEAR! !

I knew a lady that back in the 70s had a Bobcat as a 'pet'. After about 6 months or so, most of the dogs and house cats in the neighborhood disappeared!
I wonder why???

It's refreshing to see your sense of humor
on this somewhat serious SP issue, Tim.

PLEASE keep your sense of humor going
through 2011, and have a GREAT one!!

Yes, that's why I used the zoom lens on my
camera. If I had got any closer, I probably
would have been invited for dinner. Thanks..

Thanks ... big cats deserve a big spot in
the desert, because they like to roam around
similar to what a common house cat would.

Best wishes to your desert and mountain adventures! It's never too late to spot
some wildlife.

I work with a nurse that has a pet bobcat and she rules the house. He had it declawed but it still climbed their christmas tree last winter and destroyed all the ornaments on it. I have yet to meet his pet though.

That's extremely wild. I'm an advocate for
free choice, but I'm reluctant to get too
close to these awesome critters.

Actually, I don't even keep a live tree in
the house. Got plenty of cactus and lizards.
All I gotta do is look outside.

These ARE really shy cats. I suppose they
could never be completely trained, or even
taught to do things a domesticated cat could.

Just my opinion, as I never owned one ..
