Trifecta  Sucess!

Did the circuit BM to EP to MW with Chad, Lisa, Red, Kat, Stephen. We had great weather. Upon exiting near the CB campground we found the whole drainage had been closed (while we were doing the circuit) due to bears feeding on a cow carcass in the campground area. We probably narrowly escaped a mauling that day LOL

Climbed with a group from GMS. It was a very hot day, ended up with heat cramps. A successful though not very enjoyable day.

Mad Wolf Circuit  Sucess!

Found the old trail (secretly being sawed out by someone! Thank you!) thanks to old data on my GPS from Cut Bank Creek through the trees to Mad Wolf. If you start taking the old trail where is splits from the current one (0.25 miles in from the trailhead), go down it ~100 meters til it reaches the creek, cross the creek there, look for cairns in the meadow, and try to follow them as the trail goes into the trees. The trail will save you lots of time and effort and dump you into a meadow right below Mad Wolf. Shame the park let it go but it's still out there... Lovely ridge walk to Eagle Plume and Bad Marriage. Heard horror stories about the waterfall area so we bailed off the backside of Bad Marriage to the trail and hiked ~4 miles out. Definitely a schwack but not terrible by Glacier standards.

Did the Mad Wolf, Eagle Plume, Bad Marriage circuit with Ron, April, Gary, Patty and Duane on a beautiful early summer day. The full moon rising at sunset as we drove back to the Cut Bank campground was beautiful.

four amazing trips  Sucess!

July 22, 2009: First trip we climbed straight up the north basin, and it took our group a total of five hours to bushwhack/climb from Cut Bank Campground to the summit. Started late, so we aborted our attempt on the entire Mad Wolf Circuit. We descended to the northwest, and spent two hours trying to find the way down around a huge waterfall (tried to take the exit route Gordon Edwards describes in his "Mad Wolf Circuit" route). Ended up wading down the drainage for two hours until we finally hit Cut Bank Creek. Long, frustrating 12 hour day!

Aug 22, 2010: Second trip we took the north ridge approach and made the summit in 3 1/2 hours. Threatening weather to the west forced us to retreat, as we had initially planned to attempt the entire circuit (Eagle Plume and Bad Marriage). Descended via the great north basin.

August 13, 2011: Third time's the charm! Took 13 1/2 hours on a hot, cloudless August day to complete the entire Mad Wolf Circuit. Climbed via north ridge route and made the summit in 3 1/4 hours. Had little difficulty finding correct way down from wild valley between Mad Wolf/Eagle Plume/Bad Marriage as I had spent so much time scrambling around in 2009!

August 10, 2014: Hiked the boundary clearcut up to the top of Cut Bank Ridge. Gained the north ridge and checked out the north summit before strolling to the true summit. Descended via the little gully directly east of the summit and down the broad bowl to the north. Rather than negotiate the tricky cliffs, we followed a solid game trail above the cliffs to the east until finding an easy, grassy slope that allowed us to get around them. Yet another great day on one of my favorite mountains in GNP!
