better maps

I would recommend maps by Tobacco rather than Kompass for this region. They are more detailed and accurate from my experience. Paper and packing is also much better.

You are right of course. At the time I wrote this entry I hadn't used Tabacco maps yet. On the other hand they are not as easily available as the Kompass ones (at amazon e.g.). Also, for tha Alps the Kompass maps aren't too bad ...

Accessibility is true, however, if you get your maps after arrival to the area I would go for Tobacco. I really enjoyed using them. Still, personal preferences may decide:) Great info about the Marmolada, though. Very detailed. I wish I read it before I went there :)

What a work, thank you. This brings back memories of long ago hikes and climbs.
And of unfullfilled plans !!
I immediately want to quit work and head for Passo Pordoi or Fassa valley !!!
