Matkov kot

Matkov kot

The remote Matkov kot is the last, the westernmost valley of Kamnik/Steiner Alps, if you reach them by the valley of Savinja. This picture is taken from the vicinity of Matko farm. It shows Mrzla gora, the highest mountain above the valley (on the right) and the summits in its NE ridge - all of them very rarely ascended. At the end of the valley, where a big snow field is seen, in late spring a special natural phaenomenon can be found. That is 'Matkov škaf' (Matk's Tub), a huge snow cone into which drizzling water makes a big hole. This day I visited the place. May, 29th, 2008.
