37 peaks in 19 days  Sucess!

There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days. The Matterhorn to Jarbidge traverse was one of the tougher hikes of the trip, mainly because of the absence of a trail up these peaks. Getting to the peaks is a bit of a hassle, but once you are up high, it's a really nice traverse. We found several geodes near Jarbidge Peak and I took some of them home to cut open with my diamond saw blade. trip report

Dry Gulch  Sucess!

Beautiful day for a hike. Saw lots of elk along the way. We've had lots of rain this summer so things are still very green and gorgeous in this area.

Matterhorn  Sucess!

From the end of the drivable road we hiked up the trail to Dry Gulch and went up the southern ridge of Dry Gulch to the saddle between Matterhorn and Cougar Peak. We first went up Cougar and the backtracked to where we gained the ridge and then onto Matterhorn. This is the toughest section of the entire ridge. From Matterhorn we went up Square Top Peak, Jumbo Peak, and Jarbidge Peak. From Jarbidge Peak we went back down to the saddle of Jarbidge and Jumbo and followed the ridge extending off of Jumbo back down to where I parked. After the hike we drove to the town of Jarbidge and had a beer at the Red Dog Saloon before we headed back to Twin Falls. This was an awesome experience in one of the coolest areas I have ever hiked.

Indepedence Day hike  Sucess!

As part of a loop with Dennis and Matt (Wasatch Mt Club): Jarbidge Peak, Jumbo Peak, Squaretop, Matterhorn and finally Cougar Peak.

loop  Sucess!

Dry year, record heat... but still had plenty of snow to refresh water. Standard Matterhorn-Squaretop-Jumbo loop. Jarbidge Peak looked tempting, but we voted to keep the group together and deal with the folks who had to drive back to Vegas that evening.

Is it really January?  Sucess!

Great way to start the new year with splattski and Superdave. An endless dirt road from mountain home was a great shortcut from Boise. The dry weather made for pretty good conditions

Repeat  Sucess!

2nd time was with Dennis Poulin. Went up the same way although it is more a ridgeline route up to the main ridge and from there to the summit. Many had signed the register since I had been up there with Ken Jones the previous September

Dry Gulch route  Sucess!

Seattle mountaineer Ken Jones and I spent a good chunk of a day doing this one. About 9 miles and over 4000 feet of elevation gain. The final rock summit was a class three section which led to an airy perch.
