Nice

I wonder how many pictures there are of people climbing Portent there are? It seems to me that there are some places/views that should just be labeled 'photo opportunity here,' and this is one. :-)

Re: Nice

Yep :) This was taken on my first day climbing at Pinnacles (I'd climbed on some granite before then).

btw I have to go back sometime and try leading something there ... the only stuff I've led so far has been on granite (Sierra, Cascades, and Squamish) and sandstone (Castle Rock state park). I understand that passive pro is better for Pinnacles because it is less likely to shear the relatively weaker rock (?)

Leading at the Pinnacles

The only routes I've lead at the Pinnacles have been bolted and most routes are either bolted or mixed. The only purely trad route that I 've climbed (followed) is Swallows Crack, 5.6. I seem to remember my partner used more passive gear.

I've also heard that passive gear is better at the Pinnacles. However, most of the well traveled routes on the East Side are pretty solid.
