Springtime exploration
Views of Pacoima Canyon were outstanding from the road, which itself is a fine trail. The spur road from Mendenhall Pass to the peak, however, is in rotten condition. As wordlessnature said a decade ago - it's overgrown and full of ticks, and now it has a couple large washouts. The first is barely passable and the second turned me back 200 feet below the summit.

From Dillon Saddle
Up the fire road and then bushwacking for the last mile on a nice clear day. Summit views were pleasant and able to see Catalina today.

More fun than the road. Found a rock throne someone built on peak 4403 along the way.

Overgrown and beautiful...
Great hike via the West ridge. I would recommend this over the fire road; as of 4/2013 it was extremely overgrown with mallow and full of ticks.

On the way to Mt McKinley
Double header LPC ascent for a total of just under 19 miles. Headed up the west ridge of Mendenhall and descended via the (overgrown and washed out) old lookout road. A bit chilly due to high winds.

Looks easy, but is not so if targeted for a mid-week workout with only 2 hours of daylight available. Reached summit right at sunset after squeezing through a really overgrown lateral for the last half mile. With no desire to return the same way in the dark, I took a chance and plunged down the unfamiliar west ridge, connecting with the fire road exactly at dusk. Ran the rest of the way back.

Bike Ride
Rode my bike up the gently graded Mendenhall Ridge Road (3N32) to Mendenhall Saddle, then hiked the remaining distance to the summit. No register found.

First snow hike of the year
A long haul but a great view on the first clear day after the storm. Lots of fresh powder. Saw all kinds of animals tracks but only one actual animal (a deer at the summit). I highly recommend the loop.
