Nice accessible summit with panoramic views  Sucess!

A great day climb from Zermatt for good weather and an early start. The glacier was mostly snow-free and the crevasses were too small to fall into. Spectacular summit for its panoramic views.

Normal route Mettelhorn  Sucess!

A very long and quiet heavy hike, but very rewarding, with some amazing views to most of the highest peaks in Wallis!

Route Climbed: Normal Route  Sucess!

Second acclimatization hike in Zermatt. Scottish atmosphere with fog and sheeps in the lonely Triftchumme valley. Continued to Platthorn und Wisshorn - 2200 meters altitude gain all told.

Mettelhorn and Platthorn  Sucess!

I'm not sure any more whether it was really on the 12th of August or one or two days after, after all, this was in 1987...But I'll never forget the fantastic weather and the incredible view I had from the Mettelhorn and it's neighboring summit, the Platthorn! I actually climbed it two times, once towards the evening after arriving at the Hôtel du Trift, and then early next morning.

Mettelhorn  Sucess!

Together with Sandra! All alone on the pretty small summit. Wonderful ascent with breathtaking panorama, especially from the top of course!
Again on top on September 20, 2008 with Sascha and Johannes. Descent over Schweifinen.

Loong hike

Started at Zermatt, and about 4 hours later I was at the top of Platthorn, the neighbour peak of Mettelhorn. 1700 heightmeters from Zermatt. I felt tired and did not bother to visit both peaks as planned. Mettelhorn would be another 45-50 minutes up and down. Great views from both of these peaks of the bigger mountains in the area, especially Weisshorn.

Normal Route  Sucess!

Great training hike. Puts you in the midst of some serious peaks, and 1800m+ will strengthen the legs (can't say the same for the knees).

Hiked up from Zermatt in about 3 1/2 hours. The 1800m of uphill actually goes pretty quickly. No view from the summit though, thanks to the bad weather that had been hanging over Zermatt for more than a week. Nice way to end the trip.

Route Climbed: The path from Zermatt Date Climbed: 28.July 1997.  Sucess!

Summited 11 AM in a weather that allowed me to see a fair part of the 32 mountains above 4.000 meter in this area. Lot of pasta and redwine in the restaurants on the way down to Zermatt.
