Well, of course I've done this one since I put the page up. Looks like another hacker deletion. My notes from my guide book say "Nightmare overgrown trail, lost trail-too much snow, tried going up ridge in picture (of Sullivan's book), 3-4th class scramble, muddy and wet, used trees to lower myself down, found real trail then made summit. Spent lots of time kick-stepping snow and using trekking poles as ice ax, pretty scary some spots, slowed so much took me 5 hours round trip. Cool views of Cascades though."

I've been here a few times and it's one of my favorite hikes. Went 5/52016 and the road - Lava Lakes was impassible in our vehicle due to snow. So if you plan on going anytime soon keep that in mind.

I had the trail to myself this morning, except for a few mosquitoes at the trailhead. At the summit, it was breezy enough to keep them at bay. Great views from Mount Hood to the Three Sisters.

rmick25Worst skeeters ever!  Sucess!

Had grand idea of not bringing a tent and bivying on the summit. Ended up with millions of skeeters tormenting throughout the night on the worst bivy ledge ever. Got of route at night and didn't find summit till morning. Hard to believe

Went up trail with Jill. Few mosquitoes, trail in good shape. Two blowdowns across trail. The views are great on a clear day.

What great fun -to get to all three pyramids in a day! Goals are good, and so exciting when accomplished!:) Would like to go back and spend a little more time exploring this area...

Colleen & I tagged all three Pyramid summits today starting with the North Pyramid, then back to the Middle Pyramid, then on to the South Pyramid. The day stayed dry but the ceiling was low making it not very ideal for picture taking. I would have liked to create Mountain pages for the North & South Pyramids but I'm not happy with the pics I took...

The routes off to the North & South from the Middle are ridge scrambles, the North being the easiest. It was an eight-hour day for us including "dillydally" time. The total route consisted of about (7) miles with a total of 3000' elevation gain. We'll definitely do it again.

The ceiling hovered at about 4700'. We never saw the top from below. We were hoping the clouds would lift but they never did. We set out to tag all three summits but only tagged the Middle Pyramid. We headed to the North Pyramid from the Middle via the North Pyramid trail but it took us down. We turned around after dropping 1300' in less than a mile. We plan to come back soon, but on a more clear day. We'll use the Middle Pyramid trail to the Middle Pyramid and tag the South & North Pyramid via the ridges.

I did this on a warm cloudless day. I ran into snow that was pretty steep on the short north facing section of the trail, which made things a little interesting. The trail appears to be in better shape now. It wasn't overgrown, but there were a few trees down, only one of which was tricky to get around. The old growth and views from Mount Adams to Diamond Peak were great. Lots of clearcuts to the west however. I am not really a fan of clearcuts. Aside from that it was a great and rewarding hike.
