| Super fun climb from the lake at the base of the route. Very enjoyable class 3 to the ridge and a fun summit block. I wish every Sierra climb was like this one. Traversed to Midway before returning to camp. | ||

| A fun and interesting solo climb- except for a very unexpected encounter with some black-ice coating some of the shaded rock northwest of the summit. Luckily, my hands were well placed. A bit of adrenalin and a reminder to stay ever alert! | ||

| We hiked in from Shepherd's Pass and camped in Milestone Basin for three nights. The lower part of the peak is not as tedious as it looks--there was much less talus and more sandy benches dotted with boulders than it appeared. To get to the top of the notch I scrambled up a ramp on the right, then up a fairly steep face just above that. I was nervous, not only because of the exposure on this part, but because of the expected stormy weather--it had rained very hard the past two afternoons--I did not want to be stuck up there in the rain or attempt to down climb on wet rock! The summit views were amazing and we met two guys who had just placed the new summit register. It only sprinkled rain later that day! | ||

| The first stop during a Milestone-Midway dayhike out of the Shepherd Pass trailhead. I'd neglected to look carefully at the map beforehand, but I determined after the fact that the stats for this little outing turned out to be about 46mi and 13,500' gain roundtrip. (This might explain why my legs feel so stiff today). It took ten hours just to reach Milestone Mtn--and I only stopped for a drink of water at Anvil Camp, and to put on my jacket and gloves at Shepherd Pass! That place is damned cold at 3.45am. I was out 21.5 hours in all, most of them enjoyable--except for maybe those last boring fifty-plus switchbacks down to Symmes Creek, which just never seemed to end. Milestone Basin is a gorgeous area, well worth the effort to make it up there. Ran into Patty Rambert and a CMC group along Milestone Creek, on their way to the same peaks. Milestone and Midway now occupy spots 1 and 1A on my list of peaks that are a bitch to dayhike. (Goddard's been bumped to a distant third). | ||

| This is an impossible looking peak when viewed from the east side. The East ridge route was fun, a very nice hike through Milestone Basin frm the Kern River followed by about 500 feet of talus (only the last 100 or so is loose). After crossing through the notch, the last 10 minutes of class 3 up the west side was very fun. | ||

| I climbed the class 3, Northwest Face with my friend, Mike. We had a wonderful view from the summit. The smoke from the McNally fire to the south had largely dissipated. We downclimbed the East Side route and traversed across upper Milestone Creek Basin to Midway Mountain. We were worried about building rain clouds, but fortunately nothing hit us and we summitted Midway that day before returning to our camp at Colby Lake. | ||
