Money-plant in Heughes Canyon

Money-plant in Heughes Canyon

Lunaria annua, a Mustard family transplant from Central Europe but not too common in our parts. The American names of the plant, Money-plant or Silver-dollar, both of course refer to its seed pods, which turn translucent-silvery by the end of summer. The Latin name of course compares the same pods with the full Moon. And in Britain it is known as Honesty, probably because one can "count all the change in its purses". Heughes Canyon, 6/19/08
