We had plans for one of the Tofana's, but it was raining, so we decided to hike a lower mountain. Great history there, great exploration of tunnels (helmets are useful here otherwise you will bump your head into low ceilings).
Climbed via Pioniersteig from the north. Very impressive hiking route with good views into and across Höhlensteintal. Explored the WW I positions and trenches on the Piano / Piana summit plateau. Descended by the eastern route into Rienztal.
"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."
