Hiked to Alpine Lake for a night and then Baron Pass with spectacular views, then Baron Lake for the night. Slept without a tent in a drizzle with deer salt-mad all around me nibbling near my ears. Monte Verita is beautiful and central with gorgeous views, but the best impression it makes is as a background at sunrise from Baron Lake. Not much climbing up here, but it could be done as a pretty wild walk from near Baron Lake. My route involved more scrambling than climbing but some tough stretches as I did not pick a good route. From the true summit the Feather Lakes will be below you and Baron Lakes also in view.

24 mile RT hike and scramble. Sunny and 60F and I only saw 1 other group on the trails. The steep scramble from Upper Baron Lake was a classic solid rock ascent. The ridge line required route finding over and around the steep towers and the SW side of the ridge dropped off precipitously. Much to my surprise there was no sign of prior ascent even though this is a named USGS peak. I left a new summit canister and small cairns for the next party.
