Fun hike

Hey Radek, I climbed Field's Peak yesterday but didn't have the time to do Moore or Moon as I had believed the weatherman and thought the weather was going to suck. By the time I woke up to the fact that it was going to be nice weather in eastern Oregon, I was already too late to do Rock Creek Butte so I headed down to do Field's at least and get in a conditioner. Nice drive with my wife through the John Day Fossil Bed area and a fun hike up Fields.

I'll have to go back and get not only Moore and Moon, but peak 7264 which I'll post a picture of. (Just northof Field's Peak). What a neat area. Your pic here is really what inspires me to go back again.

Re: Fun hike

Thank you for the nice words Dean.

We too were surprised how fun this hike was. THe nice thing about it in particular (IMHO) was the fact that it only takes a few minutes till you're above the trees and soaking in the views. Much of the distance on the traverse of the 3 summits is covered above timber. I think early season (June?) might be even nicer when the grasses are not quite as yellow and dry.

That peak 7264 you mention does look kind of impressive. We too did not have time for it on the last trip.

Re: Fun hike

Peak 7264 is one of my future objectives along with Moore and Moon. Here's that pic to whet the appetite. I think you'd have a great view of those rock ridges just to the west of 7264 and that alone would make it worth the extra trudge. Have you done Rock Creek?

Re: Fun hike

Dean,

It has only been like 4+ months since you posted the above message.....totally missed it (my apologies)!!!

I was wondering what the peak you see from Fields was - now I know ("UN" 7264 :) The area is more fun to hike than I thought it would be (Oregon prairies...."how fun could that be??"). We drove that stretch of US26 last Saturday and I was reminded of better weather days of summer!!! Slowly but surely it's coming....take care.
