A very rewarding half-day out, first tagging Mount Abbott via Abbott Ridge, then scrambling up Afton's 4th class east buttress. I then descended Afton's northwest ridge, traversed the Abbott-Afton bowl, checked out the little tarn there, then wandered up to the Abbott Ridge-Mount Abbott saddle, then found the trail heading back to the car. "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
