Mt Angeles  Sucess!

Nice quick and easy scramble. Rather loose; might be better with some snow in the gullies. Fantastic views though.

East Klahane Ridge Scramble  Sucess!

Parking lot to T-junction of Klahane Ridge trail and unmarked trail to summit ~1 hour, from here to summit 50 minutes, down climb/scramble 50 minutes, t-junction to parking lit 30 minutes, total time 3 hours and 10 minutes. WARNING: East ridge is Class 3- Class 4 with some mid Class 5 depending on if you want to go up and down the ridge line or if you want to trace the base and climb the last 20 feet at the end. Down climb is very dangerous because of the easily fractured rotten rock, you may cause a landslide if you're not careful! Beautiful view of Hurricane Ridge and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

In the arms of the Angeles  Sucess!

Tabitha and I used the Switchback, route 1 var., route. Still snow patches along the way. Saw a bear near the top of the Switchback Trail. Had a young buck walk up to within 20 feet of us. Beautiful day.

East Ridge Fail

I attempted a scramble of the east face of the middle peak starting at the first prominent notch along the S-N ridge line. I made it up a dirty class 3 gully to the saddle and then up the ridge towards the summit to about 6200 ft before running into a cliff. There was a rappel sling there and I couldn't find a way to descend so I called it a day and returned the way I came. The down climb was loose and sketchy. I'll return some day, but do the normal trail to the true summit. I did get this nice shot of the east face though, so it wasn't a total loss.

Climbed Middle Peak (east summit)  Sucess!

We topped out on the east summit after climbing three south-facing couloirs that had enough snow to make it fun. Some scrambling required, including just below the east summit. We had planned to take one of the east-facing snow gullies above the northeast bowl, but snow layers on the way there seemed dicey. Instead, we climbed through a notch in the east ridge to its south side, where a route became obvious.

It was a fun climb on a beautiful winter day. We had not realized that the slightly higher peak of Mt Angeles was on the other end of the ridge to our west, but we set out to climb the east peak and made it. Approach was via the switchback trail to the Klahhane Ridge. Trail had been broken through the snow to that point by snowboarder(s). Ice axe was helpful.

Solo?  Sucess!

Absolutely perfect day and conditions. Just me, some marmots, and a bear on the trail. Wonderful last day of a solo trip to the Pacific Northwest.

Fun hike!  Sucess!

2011 is the most recent time I've been up Angeles but I've gone up here countless of times! Very enjoyable hike and it is always fun to make up your own route up!

Kids Hike  Sucess!

I'm gonna guess this was in about 1995, although I don't know the exact year. I was young and even this was a pretty long trail for me, but I had to get to the top and no matter how many times my grandma (she was a pretty fierce hiker) said "we should stop here" I kept selfishly rambling forward, until the scree ended at a short summit block. I just went on up and I don't think they could have stopped me, and this was probably my first truely meaningful summit. I had lead the way up, instead of being dragged along by my parents, and that meant something. The views were awesome

Snow & Fog.  Sucess!

Standard route - I think was the first time I attempted a Class 2 peak. I remember thinking it was really scary at the time. :)
