Climbers trail  Sucess!

I climbed it with a couple of my cousins to celebrate my return to Washington after seven months in Maine. It was a beautiful day, we could see everything from Baker to the heart of the Olympics. Really fun scramble, I was pretty comfortable with it but I'm pretty sure my aunt would kill me if she knew the route I took Jacki and Gep on!

Success!  Sucess!

Second time is a charm in this case. Bridget and I made the summit just before sunset and spent a half hour enjoying the changing colors in the sky. We used headlamps on the way out and encountered a large animal that was coming towards us in the bushes. We yelled at it and it stopped about ten feet away. I could hear it breathing. I bet it was that one goat that seems to harass everyone. Bridget says it's chased her before.

Switchback Trail  Sucess!

After the switchback trail, I made a beeline up a snow-filled couloir still rock-hard in the early morning cold. It was a dicier ascent than it should've been, but soon enough I met up with the climbers trail and scrambled up the loose rock to the summit. Amazing views! Barely a cloud in the sky and I could see Rainier, British Columbia, and most of the Olympic peaks. Descended the 'normal' way. Fantastic peak for such a little time commitment (3hour round trip)

Klahhane Ridge Approach with a dude in 'boat shoes'  Sucess!

Made the scramble through the snowpack and fog with my friend who was wearing boat shoes. Well, he made it anyway. Didn't know you could have that much scree on a mountain. It was easy on the way down!

south(?) gully route

Climbed with gurlyclimber and our friend Jody while poking around the Olympic Peninsula after an attempt on Rainier. We are not sure what summit we ended up on actually, we went up a class 3+ gully system just west of the junction with the switchback trail then headed left and scrambled up to what we thought was the summit of Angeles. Unfortunately the peak just east of us looked taller and was probably the true summit. Most of the summit was in a low cloud as we ascended, so we probably just missed the true summit, we decided to just head down so we could get back to the airport. We did get to share our journey and summit with a friendly and curious mountain goat though!

Climbers Trail  Sucess!

Second peak of our intro to the Olympics weekend. We really liked the Hurricane ridge area. As advertised the views from the top are great in clear weather.

run, scramble, run

I came across Klahhane Ridge from Hurricane Ridge. I accidentaly ran right past a black bear that was poking around in the bushes and didn't stop. Not knowing there was a better route, I ascended the South couloir by mistake.

Route Climbed: Climber's Trail Date Climbed: August 20, 2005  Sucess!

We found the right way up, after passing a couple who couldn't so were headed back down. This one was a bit out of my comfort level. Although Tom is great, he can't hold me onto a rock. ;-) Anyway, if you're not comfortable on class 3, I suggest climbing Mt. Ellinor instead. The weather was spectacular. The views were awesome!

Route Climbed: The "wrong" couloir Date Climbed: May 6, 2003  Sucess!

Soloed via Sunrise Ridge on my birthday. Dry but murky weather. Took the couloir i was warned not to. Survived. Ended up near the top of the correct route after some dicey traversing. Came back the right way

Route Climbed: Climber's trail Date Climbed: Aug 1, 1998  Sucess!

Elk were bugling and huge bucks just laid there while I walked within a few feet. No one else on the route that day. Climbed Steeple Rock after I was done with Angeles.

Route Climbed: Climber's Trail Date Climbed: June 1, 2003  Sucess!

Climbed this fun peak with my wife and Brian. We had to fill in the spectacular views in our heads since the visibility was 400 feet at most. I'm sure under clear conditions the view must be awsome!

Route Climbed: Climbers' Trail Date Climbed: June 1, 2003  Sucess!

After summitting Mt. Washington the day before with the Chalupas, we decided to stay and do another Olympic Peak the next day. Headed up in the morning and Radek started placing wands once we left the main trail and headed in and out of trees. Found the snowchute and worked our way up, kickstepping slowly. Summit was socked in so not much in the way of views. Signed the summit register, had some lunch and then headed back down. Nice climb.
