| Bross' interestingly flat summit contrasts well with the other nearby 'pointy' peaks. Hiked as part of the 'calibron' (no dem) with friends Dave and Kim. This was, however, the most uncomfortable and awkward descent of a mountain I have ever experienced. This unavoidable 'scree slide' took months off the life of my new hiking boots, and we felt terrible at the sea of rocks we were forced into eroding down the face with us. | ||

| Very relaxing and enjoyable hike from Lincoln. Encountered some very strong wind on the summit. The descent off of Bross was very fun and exciting running and skiing down the scree!!!. Even got to do a bit of standing glissading on some snow below the scree slope. This was one of the most enjoyable descents off a 14er I can remember. | ||

| 4th 14'er. Climbed with Jennifer. Easy hike across saddle. The path we took down the scree was quite steep for awhile. Great hiking day except for knee problems and skipping Lincoln(we'll be back though). | ||

| The goal of the day was to get in Mt. Lincoln, Mt Democrat and Mt Bross, but I wanted to get 3,000 vertical feet in on the first peak and that’s very hard to do that from the trailheads. I could have started at Kite Lake but that would have only been 2,000 feet to Democrat but with the other two peaks I would have accumulated to 3,000 vertical. The trailhead just below Windy Point and the Bristlecone forest was very close to the 3,000 feet elevation gain to Mt Bross so that’s where I decided to start. It was humid when I reached the trailhead so I was a little worried about storms later on and wasted no time in going up. The hike was pretty uneventful. It was mostly on roads carved on Broses east face. I also wanted to get in South Bross an unofficial fourteener but a 14,020 foot point on the map and listed in Roaches book. So I left the road at about 13,000 feet and headed straight up the mountain side to S Bross. I was at the summit at 9:00 am just one hour and fifty minutes. Then I headed over to Bross and made it by 9:20. I did 3,000 vertical in two hours and ten minutes, 1,500 feet per hour a first for me. Mt Bross has two wind breaks on its huge summit and it is hard to tell which the higher point is and there wasn’t any USGS Markers so I went to both. | ||

| Went up this, Mt. Lincoln, & Mt. Democrat on the same weekend, with the CU hiking club. Believe that this was the 2nd of the 3 that day. As with all of the other hiking club excursions, the trip was fun. 9.5.'10 Did it with the rents & dog. After a long wedding reception in Ft. Collins the night before, it's a wonder I even made it out of bed. At any rate, started at the Dolly Varden TH @ 10.45. Took a leisurely pace (meandering roads made the route about 5 miles longer than it needed to be one-way), & sauntered onto the summit @ 14.31; incredibly windy up there! To the point where it wasn't pleasant, so little time spent on summit. Departed @ 14.46. Upon reaching the bottom, ascended a couple hundred ft. to make the total amount of ascent over 3k' total. Great day! | ||

| This was one hell of a hike! when we reached the summit we met up with some nice 80mph winds. I could barely walk! We had some fun in the wind though, like who could pee the farthest and who could lean forward the most with out falling over ( I won both of them of course). All around it was a good hike and not too easy either. | ||

| I loved this one the best out of the 4 (hey, i'm counting Cameron :))! the summit was huge! unfortunately it was pretty windy on this summit too. but the views were crazy beautiful! you could see hundreds of miles away. so the climb down from Bross was a bit adventurous! my group separated. i went down toward the left on the west side w/ some friends. we encountered a few obstacles like a waterfall, which we had to basically "cliffhang" & rock climb around. before that, we came across some scree--now that was fun! it's like skiing on small rocks! | ||

| Bross was very cool, loved how flat it was on top. i think that we were about the only two people on top and most of the tourons had already called it a day. however i did not like getting lost on our way back down to Kite Lake, anyone know where the trail went? i knew it was here, some place... oh look there it is about 2000 feet down there. | ||

| Did the standard triple bagger route from Kite Lake. The storm was a-brewing when I made summit of Bross at 12:15 pm. Mad dash down the loose scree toward Kite Lake was quite interesting (and exhausting). Fifth of 10 fourteeners in 6 days. #13 overall. | ||

| My first experience on the summit of Bross occurred when I drove to just short of the summit and walked to the top. I then went over to Lincoln from which I proceeded on to Democrat. I took a very small amount of water and was very thirsty when I got back to the vehicle. As usual the wind was blowing and I was quiet cold. I stopped at the Windy Point turnout on the way down and read about the Bristle Cone Pines. When I started back to the vehicle I started shaking uncontrollably. I had the heater on full blast and couldn't quit shaking. I believe I had a mild case of hypothermia because of dehydration. On June 24, 2001 my son and grandson climbed all four peaks from Kite Lake. We had an uneventful climb except my grandson got sick and had to go back before he got to the Democrat-Cameron saddle. The wend blew as usual but I had plenty of water. There were the usual number of people (lots) on all summits. We got to Bross so late there wasn't anybody to take our picture. As I walked the last few feet to the summit, a guy on a mountain bike came by spinning his wheels etc. He rode around one of the wind breaks and down he went. What a waste of fuel. I did three glissades on this trip; first one was off Democrat, the 2nd was off Cameron and the third was off Bross. Except for the biker, it was a great day. The thunder storm blew up as we were climbing Lincoln and went around us until we started down Bross. That's when it started raining, but wasn't even enough to break out rain gear. | ||

| At the summit I pulled out my sandwich and turned just for a second and my dog snatched it right out of my hand. She has never done that before! The only downhill scree feld that I actually loved so far. It was actually fun - good sliding!!! | ||

| Bet you'll never guess what other peaks I climbed that day! Though this peak-baggers dream is oft ridiculed, if you look at it as a cirque traverse, then it gains more appeal as a great day for hikers and peak-baggers alike. Anybody tried skiing it in winter? | ||
