As far as I'm concerned, Sarah is the only one that summitted...rest of ya'll are some overzealous jokers that need to crank out a couple pull ups every once in a while...5.9 is V0...

FoxfulnessTo the base of the summit boulder (but not on top)  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 7, 2016

I've been past Mount Buckhorn many a time on the way to Jones Park, but never took the short side trip up the summit ridge before today.

I didn't climb the summit boulder, but I am counting Buckhorn as "done" in the books. A 5.9 is beyond my scrambling ability as a trail runner, for sure.

My GPS indicated that the summit boulder was 0.35 miles from where the ridge splits from the main trail, making this a short 0.70 mile addition to my jog to Jones Park today.

I concur with Kevin and Patrick and Dave that this summit either requires rope shenanigans or a bullet proof lead climber. We combined the two to reach the summit. Note there are no bolts on top - and the crappy rock wouldn't hold bolts anyhow - so counter weighting is necessary (tree anchor) both to bring up followers and to descend/rap. This giant boulder is rotten and crumbling - small pebbles to bigger rocks fall off easily and larger flakes threaten to dislodge entirely! I took a rock to the nose on my ascent and still had gravel lodged in my flesh on the summit! Hahaha. Great views from up top - I'll post a few of my panos. With Jes and Mikey.

If you just walked around in the trees and didn't climb this boulder... You didn't summit, folks. Why rob yourself of the experience?!?!

Second time for this one. I'm not a rock climber and never carry rope so I just made it to the base of the summit rock. Does that still count?

Great hike on a cold but dry February day. I spent the morning in and out and above the clouds. Went over and tagged the top of Mays Peak.

Did the ladder climb with Kevin, Pat T., Doug and Sue (Kevin, you got the exact date wrong). I'd been to the base of that rock a dozen times; what a thrill finally to stand on top of it!

Had some fun climbing the various boulders on the summit. Successfully climbed the summit boulder with a little help at the bottom from a dead tree.

This summit took two trips with a surprising technical 20' boulder on the summit. Gerry Roach rates this boulder a 5.9 by it's easiest route. I'm not that good of a climber, so we brought a ladder and ascenders. We threw a rope over the boulder and secured it to a tree on the other side. There aren't many protection opportunities, thus we went with rope tricks. I would be interested in hearing anybody summitting w/o rope tricks. A very worthy summit.
