Mount Cergowa - Our hike – May 8, 2013

Flowers of Bear Garlic. The name of Bear Garlic (Allium ursinum) came from a belief that bears first feed on this plant after hibernation to clean out their digestive system. Concentrations of Bear Garlic can be found in the beech-tree forests of the Carpathian Mountains. However in 2006, Bear Garlic has been added to the list of species that are threatened in their natural habitats. This plant is highly valued for its medicinal purposes. It is a natural remedy for heart disease, high cholesterol, fatty deposits, arteriosclerosis, infections of the eyes, ears, throat, respiratory infections and coughs.
