HP #23  Sucess!

The last of the Allegheny trifecta that I climbed. Climbing the tower was a bit more nerve racking than I had anticipated, but got some great pictures whilt up there.

HP 32  Sucess!

Drove down from Pittsburgh with Sarah for a trifecta highpoint weekend. We hit Mt Davis and Backbone Mountain on Oct 23rd with fellow SPer xDoogiex. Sarah and I then hit Spruce Knob the following morning. We timed the autumn color change perfectly. Sadly, it was foggy on the 23rd and our visibility was pretty limited. Happily, we woke up the next morning to clear skies and were able to enjoy beautiful views on Spruce Knob.

Easy hike from the picnic area. Very beautiful scenery. My third state highpoint!

State Highpoint #3  Sucess!

Did as a 3-peak series with Backbone, and Spruce Knob. Loved the pride PA puts in their highpoint with the exhibits of wild child, and brutal parents. Loved the tower, but especially loved the stake driven deep into the rock near the tower. The true high point. ha ha

HP # 11  Sucess!

Not much of a view from the summit but I enjoyed the view from the top of the observation tower. After leaving we drove without stopping for the night all the way back to Madison, WI. Adding to that excitement was having 2 young kids in the van. It was a nice stop on the way home.

A Well Done Summit  Sucess!

The plaques about the history of the area were really quite interesting.

Mt. Davis & one UBER-HOT girl!!  Sucess!

As far as Mt. Davis is concerned, it is nice but rather underwhelming. It was quiet, and the tower offered a great view. The best view, however, was of the model-like super-hottie that was hiking around there with her two friends. WOW!

HP #18  Sucess!

Did the +/- one mile walk-up from the picnic area on a relatively flat trail around dusk. The trail markers were a little confusing, but I was able to find the highpoint before all light was gone (no flashilight). Stargazing from the tower on a clear night with a new moon would be incredibly good.

SHP #18 in 1987  Sucess!

The only time I bagged 3 state highpoints in 2 days, and I suppose most highpointers do the same. Our family did this to summit number 18-20 in the 21st month of our highpoint quest. I finally completed my SHP quest at number 49 in June, 2009, and have no ambition to go to Alaska, having spent 40 hours at 20,320 feet (same elevation as Denali summit) on Aconcagua in 1997. If I do another 2-3 week climb someday, it will be in Nepal, not the USA.

HP #13  Sucess!

Trail from the picnic area was quite wet from recent rain but hiking through the laurels was beautiful. Lovely part of the country.

Drenched to the Bone  Sucess!

My girlfriend and I did the 3 mile hiking loop up high point trail and then down shelter rock trl back to the picnic area. On the way down the shelter rock trl we got caught in a killer rainstorm and were drenched to the bone by the time we got to the car. As soon as we got to the car, of course, it quit raining and the sun came out:)

HP #2, Spruce Knob is next!

HP #2  Sucess!

Not much to write about concerning this Highpoint. The Tower was nice, especially for my 7 year old. A lot of knats on the trail leading to the summit.

Drive up from Summit Mills  Sucess!

This was the third state highpoint for the day (Maryland and West Virginia earlier). Amazingly there was nobody around on the summit area.
