Oregon-ClimberRoute Climbed: Democrat-Lincon-Bross via Kite Lake Date Climbed: April 2005  Sucess!

Oregon-Climber

Went out for a little solo manajatwa action (If that make sense) Well bagged Democrat in a jiffy. On my way to Lincoln I started to suffer for my speedy ascent and lack of acclimatization. On top of the gully I decided to nix Lincoln and head strait for Bross. After picking up one more peak for the day I beelined it back down to Kite-Lake. All in all a successful trip.

I think that's when I climbed it? Not sure, bad with dates!

The best part of doing this trio of mountains is the time spent at high altitude. About 5 other people at the summit with me. Nice day, not too hot. That's about it.

Some fresh snow and cold winds on top. Still an easy hike from Kite Lake. Wanted to complete Decalibron but route was slick so I passed. 14er #6

We climbed a very frozen section of snow just to the north of the SE Ridge route. The slope measured between 35-40 degrees, and was very solid. This made a nice snow climb. I would carefully consider the snowpack when taking this route.

The most exhausting one of the quad....the steep climb is quite an undertaking, and is not for the faint of heart....

My wife Julie, her sister Kathleen and I summited. There was snow the whole way, quite chilly at the summit. We were told at the start that it was too hard, but started anyway. My sister in-law said that if she could do it, it wasn't very hard. Well others did not make it Kathleen and you did. We formed a small group of about 6 to descend. That was much harder than the climb. It was my wife's and sister-in-law's first fourteener.

Good hike. Very windy. For beginners that want to climb multiple mountains in one day, this is the hike. All four mountains in 4hrs 30min.

White out, sleet and snow. Had to guide a stranger down. Make sure and go to some of the sites and visually memorize the way before you go. When it's beautiful, no problems, but... I can't say enough about not taking the easy way down- right through the scree fields. Hundreds of us do it, and then the mountains get torn right up. I know nature slides the hills, but we do it faster. The high trailhead makes for an easy 3 peak day. Still time to head to some hotsprings after.

Score one for the new Colorado Scrambles book! Nice, easy ridge. Stayed the crest and explored "off route" scrambling(class 3-4) to increase the fun factor.

cowboypeteRoute Climbed: Kite Lake Trail Date Climbed: June 11, 2005  Sucess!
It was a cold morning. About half of the trail was covered with snow. Some of it was knee deep. It made for a hard climb. We reached the summit in 3 1/2 hours. Awesome views from the top! Storm clouds were rolling in so we decided against trying for Lincoln & Bross. It snowed on us during the descent. Still a great day!
