Scott ArmstrongRoute Climbed: Deadfall Lakes/Mt.Eddy Summit Date Climbed: 7-13-04  Sucess!

Scott Armstrong

Left the Parks Creek Trailhead at 10:15 am and was at the Summit by 1pm. Very windy today but sitting behind the summit structure blocked the wind fine. No one else on the summit, no one else on the trail. Saw a para-glider above Lake Siskiyou.

Found the summit register to be a complete mess, will have to go back up and fix that. Left the summit by 1:30pm and made it back to the trailhead by 3:15pm. Coming down from the summit I bypassed the trail and shot straight down the ridgeline. Trying to climb up scree isn't very fun but going down it is. I plunged stepped the whole way down to the saddle in about 10 minutes, really saved a lot of time.

All in all a strenuous but enjoyale hike, the views from the summmit are fantastic.

DeanRoute Climbed: Deadfall Lakes/Mt. Eddy Trail Date Climbed: July 4th, 2004  Sucess!

As Bob mentioned, it was neat to meet up with Bill (derbilly) on the summit. One of the locals thought it was pretty funny that we had climbed Shasta the day before as he commented that "most people climb Mt. Eddy as a conditioner for climbing Mt. Shasta, not the other way around" Well, it seemed logical to me as Mt. Eddy is the peak we were looking at as we climbed Shasta.

A great viewpoint for Shasta of course, Shasta is just boom, so right in your face. Also, a nice spot to enjoy as we spent two hours on the summit enjoying the views in all directions and the social aspect. Nice hike.

After summitting Shasta the day before, Dean Molen and I wondered if our legs would be up to even this hike. But after loosening up they felt fine, so we spent a beautiful Sunday hiking to the summit of Eddy. Great visibility in all directions. While we were enjoying the summit, derbilly arrived, which we discovered while introducing ourselves. SP is a small world indeed!

D and I enjoyed an incredible view from the top including Mt. Shasta, Mt. McLaughlin, the Trinity Alps, Castle Crags and Mt. Lassen. A divine spot to relax and enjoy the close of a mid-summer day.

MtHikerRoute Climbed: Parks Creek Trail Head to Mt. Eddy Summit Trail Date Climbed: August 7th 2003  Sucess!

I started from Parks Creek at 10:30 am and peaked at 2:00 pm. I stopped for a few minutes at the largest Dead Falls Lake and fished. But did not catch anything. I had to put a jacket on about 30 minutes from the top. It was pretty windy but sunny. The highest Dead Fall Lake looked like a mud puddle. It must have been clouded from the rains we just had. All in all, it was a great hike and pretty easy. Part of the trail was washed out but it was easy to find the trail. And that big tree in trail has been cut out. Trail is now completely clear.

DigglerRoute Climbed: standard PCT to Sisson-Callahan Date Climbed: 4 July, 2003  Sucess!

Hiked up with Lara. After a late departure (14.45), & a leisurely undulating stroll, we arrived at Upper Deadfall Lake. Losing the exact trail (covered with snow at that point), we negotiated some horrendous steep scree up to a somewhat cohesive mass of rock below the summit ridge. We climbed this (3rd & 4th class, depending on variation) to the ridge, again finding the trail. We hiked up the steep section to the summit, arriving at 18.45. After soaking up the surroundings & relaxing for awhile, we were joined by 'John (real name altered to preserve integrity),' admittedly f*@$ed up on 151 & 4:20, and Co.- N. California pre-college students. We chilled for a bit, departing briefly before sunset. Hiking partially in darkness (& encountering a dumbstruck deer, lethargic toad, & cool-looking scorpion en route), we finally got back to the parking lot at 23.09. A wonderful day, beautiful weather, a great hike up a majestic mountain!
