Route Climbed: Halfmoon Creek Trail Head to Mt. Elbert Trail Date Climbed: September 20, 2003  Sucess!

Great day! Fairly warm and sunny! Ascent 3.5 hours, descent 1.75 hours, and spend 30 minutes at the summit. Was sure to spot the High Mountain Institute from the summit. There was a scout troop climbing up that I passed in both directions. Not sure of their ending status. Very friendly people at the top, beautiful view!

Route Climbed: South Mt. Elbert Trail Date Climbed: March 12, 2005  Sucess!

It was about 41 at the trailhead, which is remarkable for a spring day at 10,000 feet. The summit was windy and very cold, but also very clear.

A great day in the mountains.

Route Climbed: Mt. Elbert Trail Date Climbed: August 5, 2004  Sucess!

I was only two days back from Europe, and not acclimated to the altitude. Way too many subpeaks on the trail which lengthened the trip. Still a great day in the hills, and a great way to earn my fourth fourteener.

Route Climbed: South Mt. Elbert TH Date Climbed: May 2001  Sucess!

Long slog during the infamous 'drought'. Watched a small fire near Leadville burn throughout the day. Beautiful summit...Nice to be as high as you can get in Colorado without being on a plane, balloon, or rocket! :)

A typical Sawatch hump, remarkable only for its regionally superlative height... although, now that I come to think of if, that section up through the trees was pretty darn steep.

My first fourteener. I have visited Colorado numerous times so I decided to try and climb the highest mountain in the state. I made good time up to fourteen thousand feet and then it felt like someone turned off the air. I made it to the top with about thirty other people.

Route Climbed: Northeast Ridge Date Climbed: August 1, 2004  Sucess!

This is an excellent trail. I left early and met a small group of people on top, but I passed many hikers on their way up as I came down. The false summits on this route are demoralizing.

On the CO trail we were passed by a few runners during the Leadville 100 ultramarathon..pretty humbling!!!

There was plenty of snow to hide the trail that day.

Caught in a couple thunderstorms after a late start, but made the summit in a 4.5-hour round-trip hike.

Route Climbed: East Ridge via the South Mount Elbert Trailhead Date Climbed: January 8/9 2005  Sucess!

Climbed Elbert with the Colorado Mountain Club. We camped at 11,400 ft on day 1. Then on day 2 we hiked to the summit. There was tons of snow and the weather made for a very cold summit day. This was my most challenging accent of Elbert of the three times I've been up it.

Mount Elbert is a spectacular mountain. Even though im a sixteen year old from kansas, this is one of the best hikes i have ever had the privledge of going on. plus i had the bonus treat of being accompanied by some of my friends from our youth group

After a long slog through deep snow below timberline, we enjoyed mostly wind-compacted snow until we finally reached the summit. It was a very clear day, with relatively low wind, despite the cold temperatures. Great climb!

I think we were the only two people on the mountain that day, we haven't seen anyone at all. Met some people at the parking lot when we came back, but they were there just to look around. The trail is a walk up, no big deal, but it's all uphill so make sure you have enough time. There was a bluejay who kept following us the whole trail until the tree line ended. We fed him some trail mix from our palms!

What a great place to be on July 4! It was a little crowded on top but looking east and knowing that you are higher than everything until you get to the Alps in Europe is a great feeling.
