ajberryTraverse: S Ridge from Greenback Col and descent via NE Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 6, 2012

Up Sneffels Highline trail from Telluride; cut across/up to Greenback-Emma col; S Ridge somewhat complicated [first (biggest) rock band, took gullies to left (W); ditto for second rock band; third rock band (summit block), took gullies to right (E)]. Descent via NE Ridge: from N end of summit block, descend gullies to E before picking up ridge below pinnacles. I then dropped into the top of the Mill Ck drainage from the low point between Emma & Gilpin, and rejoined the Sneffels Highline trail. Gorgeous, long day.

I started with a group of friends, but they decided to ski down before we reached the summit. I summited alone with Duchess. A beautiful day! Tons of snow up there!

Did this one on a perfect cloudless late summer day! Went up Mill Creek Basin to the Emma-Greenback saddle and then followed the ridge up to the summit. Lots of scree and loose rock but the climb offered some great views of the mountains surrounding Telluride. After descending, finished the Sneffels Highline loop. It was a long and memorable.

8/22/10 - Scree & talus slope leading up to the northeast ridge is horrid! Ridge itself is interesting but pretty easy with some minor routefinding. I thought that the final scramble up the summit block had a canyoneering flavor. Climbed neighboring Stony Mountain afterwards.

3/11/17 - Winter ascent from Camp Bird Rd. Headed directly up into Governor Basin instead of following the road (shelf part buried under steep snow). Several areas of avy risk but excellent conditions. Summit ridge was fun & interesting with snow.
