Route Climbed: Evans Loop Direct Date Climbed: June 23, 2005  Sucess!

This was a rest day, so we picked the easy way up... left the truck at echo and got just enough elevation to call it official.

Got married on time just after sunrise.

Route Climbed: Road Date Climbed: July 2001  Sucess!

I've done this numerous times. First time to the summit was riding from Evergreen (Bergan Park) to the parking lot, then hiking with sandals the rest of the way. Since then I've never done the last hike to the top again, but had ridden the road for 4 years running. I hit 50mph every time heading down.

Route Climbed: Guanella Pass Date Climbed: August 14, 2005  Sucess!

Well, we started at Guanella Pass and went toooo far left. Ended up summiting Spaulding, then heading to Evans. Made for a nice looong hike! But we got to bag 2 peaks! And it was a beautiful day. Bierstadt even had a dusting of snow.

Route Climbed: Echo lake Date Climbed: July 14, 2005  Sucess!

Fun Fourteener, however the summit is CRAWLING with unappreciative tourists who litter and bother the wildlife....Stay on Bierstadt, it's most likely better.

Route Climbed: Sawtooth to Bierdstadt Date Climbed: Jan '04  Sucess!

Good winter climb. Pretty straight forward. More fun to try and stay right on top of the ridge instead of the side like most people do.

Route Climbed: West slopes of Bierstadt over sawtooth to Evans Date Climbed: July 30, 2005  Sucess!

This was my second time over the sawtooth from Bierstadt. The first time, weather ran me off before I got to Evans.

Route Climbed: Upper Snave  Sucess!

I hiked to the summit from the parking area with my wife, Katie, and son, Jack. This was Jack's first fourteener; he did not hoof it up here, but he, at 11 months, did a better job climbing rocks up here than most adults do. I will never take a long approach to Evans because it seems pointless and ungratifying to do so on a mountain that has a road up it, but I did want to be able to say I'd done something legitimate on Evans. So, from the summit I descended some Class 3 rocky terrain to the ledge accessing the Snave and the north face couloirs, and then I turned right to climb a prominent crack and ledges which turned out to be the upper portions of the Snave route. The absence of snow made for some Class 5 climbing, especially through the crack and up an overhang (it seems these portions were just off the actual route), and it was at times harder than 5.0-5.2 routes I'd done before. Many people would want protection here, but I free-climbed in jeans and had little real difficulty. I also had a lot of fun, and doing the entire route from Summit Lake, minus the talus slopes, would be even better.

Route Climbed: Sawtooth from Bierstadt Date Climbed: September 3, 2005  Sucess!

Hiked Bierstadt first and got a little sick on the way up, once that went away the day was great. I brought my dog along and he did great, but my brothers dog ripped up her paws. Longer hike then expected, but fun.

Route Climbed: Sawtooth from Bierstadt Date Climbed: August 27, 2005  Sucess!

Traversing the Sawtooth was fun and non-technical. Caught in a horrible lightning and snow storm on the way down from Evans--being stupid, we should've been off the summit ridge by then.

Route Climbed: Sawtooth Ridge Date Climbed: August 28, 2005  Sucess!

Did Bierstadt before sunrise, then traversed the really intense Sawtooth before making our way up the Mt. Evans ridge to the summit. Many tourists (probably from Texas) were up there wondering why we were wearing so much gear.

Great climb with Charles and Amy Danforth. An easy one after some intense experiences in the mountains of late. Some nice August snow. Coffe and Ritter Sport on top.

Various  Sucess!

8/11/05: Drove to the parking lot at the top of Evans, walked to the summit, dropped down the west ridge, crossed the Sawtooth to the summit of Bierstadt, then recrossed the Sawtooth and retraced my steps back to my car. Nice, easy, quick, enjoyable outing.

7/08: Returned to bag Evans, Spalding and Gray Wolf.

10/3/10: Climbed the SNAVE with Bryan and Brian. We then traversed over to Mt. Spalding. I then went solo to Mount Warren, Rogers Peak and Goliath Mountain.

Route Climbed: The easiest peak trail I've done. Date Climbed: June 2003

Growing up in Redding, California, I surely thought Mt. Shasta or Mt. Whitney would be my first 14er, and never thought my wife would experience that altitude without being in a plane. Now we both can say, "I've been over 14,000 feet on foot and even brought along a friend with her 6 year old daughter." Really, I doubt I'll be using a line like that much until my own daughter is old enough to do Shasta, Whitney, or White Mtn. Peak with me. The cyclists who rode all the way up made me jealous, while my wife swore they were insane. Someday when I'm not with my wife and her friend, I'll do a 14'er in a way that involves more than a 100 foot walk up, but this will have to do for now.

Route Climbed: The easiest path on the mountain Date Climbed: June 19, 2005  Sucess!

It is a great site and you can see so many other mountains and ranges from the top. It is one of the best mountains to climb up.
