Does driving count?  Sucess!

I was passing through, and in the company of a non-hiker, so drove up. Nice place, though crowded. But I saw a lot of mountain goats close up.

Long Day  Sucess!

Started from Guanella pass, made a couple of wrong turns, but finally found the summit. Lots of tourists. My cousins first 14'er.

Too bad about the road...

Drove it on a rest day between Elbert and Massive. Spectacular scenery! Hiked around Summit Lake and took some pictures. Definitely worth coming back to do the right way.

not signing, but was there  Sucess!

Was I successful? I guess so. I paid the $10 to drive up to the top. It was my first time in Colorado, and I wanted to see how I would feel on the top of a 14er. The next day I CLIMBED Mt. Elbert! Woo-Hoo. It was a total tourist thing to do, but it was fun. You guys in Colorado got it made. Lucky dogs.

Anti-climactic  Sucess!

Got up early to beat the crowds. We were third on summit, but by the time we were ready to head back, the parade had begun.

Best done in winter  Sucess!

Climb in winter to avoid the crowds. Be sure to hit "West Evans", too.

Double Dip!

Amazing Climb! The Sawtooth was fun and much easier than I expected it to be. The crowd of motorists at the summit was disappointing. Hiked the west ridge route down and had to bushwack through the willows in order to get back to Guanella Pass.

The Crystal  Sucess!

Climbed the Crystal Couloir on Father's Day. The weather and conditions were perfect. My wife and daughter drove to the top and met me at the summit for a Father's Day celebration.

Crystal Couloir  Sucess!

Climbed the Crystal couloir in about 2 hours from Summit Lake. It was cold (well below freezing) and windy today. Nice fun moderate snow climb at altitude. We had very hard snow for the approach to the couloir and good step kicking snow for the climb.

A good combo  Sucess!

No one up there on a cold October day. Did Bierstadt and Evans via the Sawtooth Ridge (loved the Sawtooth). I would enjoy going back to try some of the snow routes on Evans!

via Sawtooth  Sucess!

Did Bierstadt first. A long day, with negotiating the willows on the way out, but a great twofer. Glad I knocked both peaks off before any more permit requirements are imposed.

Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans bushwack  Sucess!

Sawtooth Traverse was fun. Evans peak very crowded with tourists. Bushwack back to Guanella pass not so fun. Just missed getting caught in a killer T-Storm!

the sawtooth traverse  Sucess!

After an uneventful summit of Bierstadt my friend and I took the sawtooth which was what I was mostly psyched for. Had a great time scrambling...helped lead some other hikers with maps and completely quizzical looks on their faces through the sawtooth. Then took a very shady and not actual trail down from the "v" of the sawtooth...adrenaline rush, gotta love it! Would definitely do the sawtooth again!
