On 4 day backpack during WMS elective with medical students. Hoofed up Guyot Spur from the AT in a foot of snow to the summit. (Been meaning to summit this way as the climb from false summit miserable.) If you do this route, be aware of the tangle of blow downs south of the summit. When you hit this mess, contour to you left (north). Round trip 50'. Love this mountain.

Details same as Tioga's (below). Very difficult to find the true summit, with indicators of the path to the summit challenging to find. Briars thick and 4-8 feet tall on the top ridge (no joke). One of the worst hikes I've ever done, but hey, we summited the 2nd highest peak in the Smokies!

The worst bushwhack I have ever done! We left the AT and went to the false summit, a short distance NE from the actual summit. The bushwhack from the false summit to the actual summit was incredibly hard, through blowdowns, fir trees, and briars taller than myself. We got pretty scratched up and almost gave up trying to attain the actual summit. We finally found it and descended to the AT straight down the summit, which made it much easier than the ascent. I do not recommend summitting via the false summit.

Up the Snake Den Trail to Old Black. Due to overflow of through hikers, camped near Tricorner Knob Shelter under a brilliant full moon to summit in the morning. Storms and wind made it a quick trip and difficult to find the true summit.

Made the trip via CMC route #651. I actually ditched my pack and ran to the top while the rest of my AT hiking party waited behind. The "route" I took to the summit was a mess and cluttered with downed trees. Glad I made it...another one checked off :)

Stayed at Tricorner Knob Shelter one night and summitted Mt. Chapman, Sequoyah, Marks Knob, and Guyot.
Found no trail or flagging tape on way up Guyot which was very thick. There is a stand of dead and down trees near the summit. Found the rock carin and benchmark on the wooded summit. Still couldn't find anything resembling a trail. Very little accessed peak and no one leaving any markings.

Enjoyable hike. The Snake Den trail is pretty straightforward. There was a goodly ammount of fresh powder which made it difficult to bushwack up the final few hundred feet. Reached around sundown.

Made a special trip just to find this summit! Huge storm hit the day before and the day after. Wind gusts up to 70 mph on top... Stayed overnight at Tricorner Knob Shelter. Shelter was full so we slept under a blindingly bright full moon... beautiful.
