| I climbed Mount Harvard with a couple of friends in High School, we climbed several other 14'ers that year but it remains a blur to me. My friend had to remind me and even produced pictures before I became convinced that I had climbed it. | |

| Had a great day. The hike to Harvard was the easy part, the ridge to Columbia provided a bit more of a challenge in route finding and class 3 moves, but it was well worth it. Surprisingly, we didn't run into that many people doing Harvard, especially for a holiday weekend. We didn't see anyone on Columbia...very peaceful. | |

| Great snow climb! If you've got a couple of days, that is. Nice campsites along Columbia; glissade down Harvard was one of the best I've experienced. | |

| We started at the North Cottonwood Creek TH in light snow at 5:15AM and summited in near white out conditions with really strong winds. It was pretty frustrating to watch the late groups enjoy the weather that the early crowd usually earns. Bill, Sharisa, Kara and I summited with our Samoyeds Denali and Yukon. | |

| Hiked Harvard the morning after hiking Yale. A full day (especially on sore knees). Didn't make the traverse to Columbia due to our lack of energy and the weather that came in. Very pretty hike. | |

| Summited Mount Columbia and then descended to 12,800 ft before heading back up Harvard's east ridge. While I lost a lot of elevation doing this, it was much quicker than taking the ridge between Columbia and Harvard. | |

| This is a beautiful climb, even on a cloudy day. Climbed with Dad in 1983, one of only three mountains I climbed in the 80's (living in Texas then). | |

| I've done this mountain twice, the first time with Aaron Johnson, the second time with Elizabeth. On the ascent with Aaron, not far from the summit we were hit by a bad hail/snow-storm, and spent 30 or 45 minutes huddled under a rock the size of a small house, eating lunch and being thankful we always drag enough clothing along with us to keep warm! We then continued to the summit through a few inches of icy slush, but under a rapidly clearing sky. Elizabeth and I took the same route, and had an "interesting" experience when she banged her head on a large rock outcropping hard enough to make it bleed, and it wouldn't stop. Amazingly enough, a hiker immediately behind us was a doctor, took a look at the problem, and we completed the last short bit to the summit without further incident--but believe me, it was a substantial relief to hear those words, "I'm a doctor..."! Harvard's still one of my favorite Colorado Peaks! | |

| Snow still covered significant parts of the trail. The view from the top was amazing. I was in awe at the splendor of God's creation! | |

| CFI was out building monster cairns, but also doing nice rock work on the trail. one steep bit at the very top, but otherwise easy for the 3rd highest with a rep. tiny summit. | |

| All was going well and good until that thunderstorm decided to greet us on top and the entire mountain started buzzing...but other than that, the Horn Fork basin below the mountain would make for some really good camping. | |

| I was sick for my 'weekend', but I didn't want to miss out on a climb, since Erin and I had been successful on Shavano the week before. This time, we chose Harvard, which would be a new altitude PR for me. We started very early in the morning, and we didn't see first light until we were well into Horn Fork Basin. This led to a mistake because we never saw Harvard during the approach. Instead we mistakenly identified UN 13,580 C (a lovely soft-ranked peak that lords over Bear Lake) as Mount Harvard. We climbed much of this 13er, reaching a saddle between it and UR 13,598. Once at this saddle we could peer around the west side of the ridge, and could now see Harvard still more than 1000' above us. We took a sketchy third-class traverse on the east face of UR 13,598 to finally reach Harvard's south ridge. We grunted up the mountain, and we were surprised by the large blocks that compose Harvard's summit. We were wiped, and the traverse to Columbia wasn't even an option. During our descent, we enjoyed the well-built CFI trail back down to Horn Fork Basin. | |

| I was a smoker then who didn't really prepare for this - my first 14er, thus I found it to be an extremely difficult yet rewarding hike. It is now almost a year later and I can say without a doubt that finishing that hike changed my life. I have since quit smoking and gained a new found respect for myself. I found it was easier to quit smoking than it was to finish that hike. Any time I find something in life that I think I cannot get past I think back to when I was sitting at 14,420 feet. I now know that I can conquer anything. I recommend that every living soul complete a 14er, though in retrospect I probably wouldn't recommend Mt Harvard as a first. | Started from Cottonwood trailhead at around 3am. It took 5 hours for our team to summit. Late in the year so it was pretty cold and windy. Otherwise, a good hike (not really a climb). Some rock scramble (easy) at the top. | |

| Climbed together with Columbia - the pair make for a long day. Opted to descend into drainage rather than travers the connecting ridge between Harvard and Columbia - not a particularily good idea. | |

| Attempted to climb Harvard and Columbia, but your right in your home page description it was a very long day and a deceiving amount of travel/work. Turned back on the summit of Harvard as conditioning/weather made the call. | |

| Left the N. Cottonwood TH around 3:30am and made the summit around 6:30am. No snow, partly clear skies and fierce winds. Taking the wind and lenticulars into consierations I opted not to do the ridge traverse to Columbia. Around 7:30 I arrived at 11,600 and the start for Columbia's West Slopes. The weather had cleared and I decided to do the link-up the hard way. I climbed Columbia and made it back to the TH around 11:15am. Best guess is 7100 vertical and 16 miles. What a day. | |
