Summited before traverse to Columbia  Sucess!

Beautiful climb up Horn Fork Basin to a spectacular summit before painful traverse over to Columbia. Had the pleasure to summit with climbing partners Robert and Alan.

Harvard to Columbia  Sucess!

Left the Harvard trailhead at 3:10am. I personally summited 6:30. My 3-lung'd partners summited between 10-20 minutes earlier. We stayed high on the traverse, keeping the climb at sustained exposed 4th class with a 2-3 5th class moves sprinked in. Rock was a bit loose, but a very enjoyable climb. Back at the car at 12:35.

Harvard & Columbia  Sucess!

A very long day! Got caught on the traverse by some storms which didn't help, but we got both peaks!

North Cottonwood TH  Sucess!

I started at 6:30 AM, reached the top at 10:15, and got back to the car at 2PM. I pushed myself pretty hard on this one. The weather was great, there was a cool breeze at the summit, but it was not at all unpleasant. There were a couple of friendly marmots wandering around the summit, no doubt looking for handouts. Great views all around. Missouri Basin is really spectacular.

From frenchmen creek  Sucess!

Camped at treeline after a long slog up the 4wd road. Made the summit in three hours at 7am - great sunrise in the morning and more wildflowers than I have ever seen. Columbines everywhere.

Successful Traverse  Sucess!

The climb up Harvard was quite scenic and very enjoyable on a great trail. The descent below the saddle (12,700') with Columbia was pretty good but the low point and the first part of the ascent up to Columbia was pretty rough with lots of boulders, medium snow fields, lots of zig zagging, etc. If I had to do this again I would go even lower to avoid this mess. A minor system with thunder just to the east resulted in us spending just a minute or so on the summit of Columbia. We even had a little snow for about 30 minutes. The descent down Columbia was pretty rough but I didn't think it was as bad as advertised as long as you find the loose trail and don't go down the scree. Overall a long but scenic day!

H&C: long, long day  Sucess!

Climbed from the standard N. Cottonwood TH with trishapajean. Got to Harvard's summit under clear, sunny skies. 14er #25 for her, a loong-anticipated repeat for me. Also did Columbia--that's what made the day so long.

Survived a major thunderstorm on route from Harvard to Columbia. Made the summit of Columbia as well after all. What a day!

South Slopes Route  Sucess!

Climbed with a larger group but only 3 of us were able to summit due to the raging early fall blizzard on the peak. 50mph+ winds and a lot of blowing snow, felt like January. I'll have to go back sometime to get a view!

South Slopes  Sucess!

Climbed from the trailhead. After thinking better of the posthole hell that getting to Columbia would be, I decided to scramble the other direction to UN 13580. Ended up being a ridiculously fun scramble on overhanging blocks above Missouri Basin.

Harvard and Columbia  Sucess!

Packed in to below treeline and tackled Harvard and Columbia the next day. Mt. Harvard was a sheer joy - a beautiful hike, Columbia, on the other hand, was not nearly as much fun.

From camp below Horn Fork Basin  Sucess!

Packed in late Wednesday afternoon with Mountain Girl and camped below timberline. Up early Thursday for the summit hike. The summit rocks presented a bit of a challenge! Weather moved in while on top and forced a fast descent through a heavy grapple storm. Very cool climb!

South Ridge  Sucess!

Started from the North Cottonwood TH at 6:10, reached the summit at 9:40. The upper part of the mountain was covered in snow (and cold), and the summit scramble was treacherous. The slick rock and possible weather moving in made me change my mind about scrambling over to Columbia. Too bad the afternoon turned out to be great weather! RT in 7h.

The dude again  Sucess!

I just can't stop climbing with this dude, even though we just don't really seem to get along that well. He's IRRESISTIBLE. Anyhoo, Harvard is fun. Hail is fun. (Why am I always getting hailed upon?) One of our friends we were with was initiated into the dudethatmusthurt fan club when dude pulled the guy up the last slab as he was about to break down from fear of heights. Aren't we all dudethatmusthurt groupies, when we really sit down and think about it????

North Cottonwood TH  Sucess!

Was a VERY long day, took some folks fresh from sea level to the summit. The trekking was very slow but everyone had great spirits throughout the day. Everyone ended up thankful for the summit and I was glad to help these people attain their first Colorado 14'r, I am thankful for Rebecca asking me to help with this adventure, Got blasted with Hail for about 15 minutes. Felt like needles hitting your head. GOOD TIMES!
