Free of snow and perfectly gorgeous  Sucess!

The trail is in great condition and completely covered in Oregon Sunflowers right now. I hiked up from the Irish Creek parking area and encountered a small rattlesnake in the path on the ridge at an elevation of 5581, and fresh bear scat in the Cinch Creek draw. Cold Day on Mount Heinen  Sucess!

Decided to go out for the climb despite the weather, and while it may not have been the wisest decision, it was still a good time. Pretty good climb in the first snows of the year. Sufferfest is the best way to describe it, but the views and relative ease on the way back was worth it.

Climbed via South Ridge.

1/4 Grand slam.

Some steep, some wind, well worth it.  Sucess!

#1 05-05-22 W/ Lana. Cinco de Mayo climb after doing Middle Sister the day before. Strong winds buffeted us the entire time but the rain delayed until we were driving back to Boise. It's definitely our favorite mountain of the Grand Slam. Nary a drop of snow along the route, only a few muddy spots which were easily avoided.

So much easier this time  Sucess!

From Irish Creek. A walk in the park compared to my 2006 climb from Deer Creek. Saw 1 rattlesnake that was ready to bite the first person, and more special: 2 curious cedar waxwings that flittered a few feet from us, snapping up insects from the air around us. A dip in the lake after the hike was much needed after 2 pm on what had become a hot day. Good training, and easy to follow route. I took 3.5 quarts of water and just barely had enough.

It's a sufferfest!  Sucess!

Hiked this one a couple times now from the south ridge and it's a lot of pain and suffering, particularly the first woefully steep mile and a half - trekking poles are your friend especially on the way down. Great views to the Danskins, Trinities, and more though the entire way, and beautifully green with lots of flowers in the spring. Do this one before it gets hot, and after some rainfall if possible - having a little more traction with moisture in the soil makes it a little easier. It's a good early season training hike, especially if you wait a year between hiking it again so you've mostly forgotten how steep it was! =D

Spring Hike  Sucess!

Really nice training hike close to the boise area. South east ridge is a long hike at around 11 miles but the moderate grade makes it quite doable in a half day.

Mount Heinen ascent  Sucess!

Hiked this with Jon Oh, Ben (Jon's friend), and three other guys that Jon and/or Ben knew. It was a fairly hard hike, but made especially harder because I went on an empty stomach and didn't bring any food! Also, as we were climbing one of the snow-covered faces, I was slipping and sliding everywhere, because I wore tennis shoes :(

Hot Lunch  Sucess!

Not much snow on the ground so Doug and I decided to try the south ridge. all the false summits were annoying, but they made the actual summit that much better. we brought up the pack stove, made some green tea, and reheated some home made spaghetti. It is a great hike that's close to boise.

Rain drops and hunters  Sucess!

Lots of up and down to get to the summit. Hiked up from Irish Creek with a few friends on a rainy, foggy day. Quite a few hunters in the area.

East Ridge  Sucess!

From Deer Creek. Not recommended. Just two of us training for the DeathHike. Nice view from the summit. This was a humbling early season hike.

Fun in the sun!  Sucess!

It was almost too hot to be up there. I was surprised at how steep opening section was and the hike its self turned out to be harder than I thought it would be. This is a very fun local hike!

Burned up!  Sucess!

Camp up from Irish Creek. This was quite a work out on my legs especially since this is my first real outing of the season. The legs are still buring now and I'm gonna feel it tomorrow. My legs aren't all that was burned though...I forgot sunscreen.....yeah. Anyways the view of the Boise mountains was great and so was the wildlife. I saw at least 5 elk.

Tried to keep up ...  Sucess!

Tried to follow a very fast goat (Sawtoothsean). It is not everyday out in the Boise Mountains, especially on this peak that 2 separate parties 5 people between them all summit this semi-remote peak.

Brutal off trail bushwack with Sean!

One false summit after another...  Sucess!

Nick and I climbed the south ridge on a warm June day. I’ve never been so frustrated by false summits. Still a good outing with 20+ different types of wildflowers seen along the way, and great views. Nice to finally get the “grand slam” finished off. Here’s a trip-report and some photos.
