Finally made it  Sucess!

Been wanting to hike this peak for ten years... it did not disappoint. Did the East Ridge - Little Jimmy Road loop -- views of Pine Flats and the North Fork canyon were stupendous!

Mt. Islip   Sucess!

Thank goodness I pushed myself to finish this hike. It was hot a couple weeks ago on the trail in the afternoon. Nice views at the top. A neat new area of the Angelus I hadn't explored before (via the south approach).

The Old Days  Sucess!

Climbed on a back packing trip in the winter of '70, one of several along the crest from Little Jimmy to Baden Powell and beyond.

Foggy and cloudy with low ceiling today. Came up through Windy Gap. Still a few inches of snow on the ground.

Climbed from Crystal Lake  Sucess!

A nice way to start the New Year. With very low snow levels in Southern California, the "Middle High Country" in the San Gabriel Mountains was still open -- though that will change if this week's weather forecast for 2+ feet of snow over 6,000 feet is accurate.

I hiked to the top via the Crystal Lake trail, and took the loop down via the Islip Ridge and Big Cienaga trails (I never did see a big cienaga, but I suspect there isn't one). There was virtually no snow on the south slopes. Maybe a couple inches on the north slopes but nothing to impede normal hiking.

Nice afternoon jaunt!  Sucess!

Beautiful afternoon hike from Islip Saddle with our 6 week old son. A bit hot at first, but the temperature mellowed as we gained elevation and favored the Northern slopes.

9 Peak Day  Sucess!

Heather and I parked below Windy Gap at 7am and then hiked up Baden-Powell, Burnham, Throop, Hawkins, Middle Hawkins, and Islip. We got back to the car at 2pm and then drove around hiking up Akawie, Winston, and Lewis. The next day we did both summits of Twin Peaks as well as Waterman.

Clear and WIndy  Sucess!

A nice hike from Crystal Lake. WIndy and cold along the ridge up to the summit, with some snow along the trail. Nice views!

From PCT via Windy Gap  Sucess!

Still had half a day left after Williamson, so headed up Islip from the saddle. Wind was howling all day and it got particularly cold at the summit as the sun went down. Shot amazing panoramas of the sunset over the Pacific, as well as beautiful compositions of rime ice in the trees.

From Baden-Powell  Sucess!

The end of a bump-tagging expedition from Vincent Gap. I dropped down and took the road back, which saved a mile but was extremely boring.

great hike from anywhere  Sucess!

did this one via the wawona trail/crystal lake and then over to south mount hawkins and back down to crystal lake. 20+ mile day hike with some good elevation gain. Wawona Trail was a bit beaten up from the Curve Fire (I believe?) but we did some good maintenance on the way to mark the trail up.

Also have done Islip from the Crest Highway trailhead/Little Jimmy. That is quite a bit easier and equally pretty.
