| DownSideFX | Near white out, sketchy! ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 23, 2013 | |
| Headed up on 3/23, lots of snow on the trails but it wasn't nearly as windy as the parking lot. Once we got past the Greenleaf Hut the wind picked up. Visibility dropped to about 15-20 feet at times nearing the summit, we turned around probably 50 yards shy as the visibility was rough.. could barely find the rock pyramids but made it back to the hut in about 30 minutes. Definitely one of the dicier situations I've been in, glad we were dressed appropriately minus goggles. Heading down was a blast, the trails were basically long glissade chutes, covered 50-100 yards at one point in a matter of seconds :) | ||

| Tried to do this a few years ago during torrential rain, and ended up destroying my boots. A lot easier to do in the snow. Pretty windy at the top. | ||

| Not successful. Almost got to the tree line of little haystack. Hard hard work to move through 3 feet++ of snow. Windy. Traces disappeared behind us. 7 hours return. Would have taken 20 hours to go around. | ||

| Redwic | Franconia Ridge Traverse ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 12, 2012 | |
| With all of the primary goals accomplished for my big NE USA trip, I had several days for garbage time (i.e. extra peakbagging and CoHPing, and sightseeing). Mount Lafayette had been previously recommended to me, with its large prominence being the carrot that led this rabbit to it. I did the trail traverse that crossed multiple named hills. After the nice morning hike, I drove south... first to Worcester (MA) for a hockey-related visit and then to Rhode Island for a couple of CoHPs (Bristol, Newport). | ||

| Hiked the classic Little Haystack, Lincoln, Lafayette. The first time was cloudy and rainy. Did it a little under a year later and was graced with a perfect day with almost no crowds. | ||

| Did a Pemi Loop over 2.5 days with a couple of friends. Going counter clockwise, camped at Guyot and Garfield tent sites. Saw an awesome lightning over a town to the north storm from Garfield; got hailed on in a lightning storm on the way out on the last day. Had a bottle of Bowmore with us. | ||

| Did a slightly longer version of the usual circuit loop by adding Mt Liberty too. Parked at Liberty Springs, climbed up to Liberty then across the ridgeline over to Lincoln and Lafayette. Was glad the caretaker at the hut (Kate) left out some pop tarts to buy. I was famished. Down Bridle Path and then an easy walk on the multi use path in the notch back to the Liberty Springs campsite. Eight hours round trip. | ||

| Large ice slab about 100 feet from the summit turned most people without crampons and/or an axe around. Trail below treeline was well packed - great views along the ridge. | ||

| Fun loop starting from Falling Waters and then the Haystack to Lincoln to Lafayette Ridge and down the Greenleaf trail. Excessive winds at the summit on top of low temperatures. All around a great climb though | ||

| Jshaw | Quick trip over the ridge ![]() Date Climbed: Oct 15, 2011 | |
| The weather started out muggy and warm on the Falling Waters Trail. Water level high from all the rain the two days before and I forgot my gators. My left foot took a dunk in the first river crossing. I was able to take some nice photos from Little Haystack then the clouds rolled in, wind picked up and some hail was thrown in too. I scooted along pretty quickly and didn't spend much time on Lincoln or Lafayette summits. The Greenleaf Hut was great. Ate my lunch and warmed up before heading down Old Bridal Path. I would have loved to have been there on a nice day. | ||
