Mt Langely  Sucess!

Hiked Mt langely on July 22, 2011. Old Army pass is snowed in, it won't open until September if at all. Took New Army pass to the summit, 13 hours round trip and I am in good shape. This is a stressful hike. Spectacular views at first lake 4 miles into the hike.

Niner  Sucess!

After my ninth ascent of Langley, I also climbed over The Fin and Woollyback on my way back to the trailhead.

New Army Pass  Sucess!

@dmasten and I climbed Langley via NAP this past weekend. A bit of snow made finding the trail tricky in spots, but overall the climb wasn't too bad. We had tried via OAP three weeks ago and we unsuccessful. This was my first 14er and it was awesome!

Still snowy  Sucess!

Patches of snow made staying on the New Army Pass trail a bit tricky, but not too bad.

Via Cottonwood Pass/PCT  Sucess!

A bit crowded, had to do the alternate route of entering the wilderness via Cottonwood Pass. Camped at the west end of New Army Pass trail. Made the summit on day two shortly after lunch. Smoke from a forest fire made the descent less pleasant. Day three, returned the same way I came.

Early Season

Although we were prepared for snow and ice, the conditions on New Army, Army, and Winter Passes were beyond our ability. Nevertheless, the hiking and camping in the Cottonwood Lakes area was excellent.

First time above 14k!  Sucess!

Came from Cottonwood Lakes to New Army Pass. Great views! Learned that AMS feels exactly like a hangover... except more booze doesn't help.

Different Routes  Sucess!

Been up Langley a few times from different routes. The NE Couloir is my favorite and I also climbed it on my way to Whitney Portal from Horseshoes Meadows as a day hike.

Fun but tiring slog up the sand to the summit of Langley from Old Army Pass. Great views.

Via New Army Pass from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead  Sucess!

Dayhiked roundtrip from the Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead ~0600 to ~1730, wow, what a great day! Gorgeous views, met a ranger counting Bighorn sheep atop Mt. Langley. Tiring, but a great day.

1st 14er

From Long Lake via New Army Pass. Clouds rolled in just as we came down. Rained all night.

Great Trip  Sucess!

Hike up to the lakes and camped out with my Dad. Woke up next morning bagged the peak and headed home. The next week started a new job selling insurance which I hated! Awesome two day trip. Very interesting scenery

Class 2 route from New Army Pass  Sucess!

Difficult hiking day. Joanna and I went up to New Army pass. The hiker's trail is very obvious and easy ground but the altitude gave me trouble. Dramatic cliff to the North East and interesting views of the Keeler Needle and Whitney. Unfortunately I was too tired to enjoy it thoroughly. We used this as a jump-off point for acclimatization for Whitney.

Army Pass via Cottonwood  Sucess!

Contrary to popular belief this is a beautiful area via the Cottonwood Lakes, and it is not an "easy" fourteener. Srambling at 13,000 feet the way we did is no easy task! The best advise I heard about routefinding secondhand after summitting was that whenever you come to a fork in the road, stay left.

Great Day  Sucess!

Picture perfect day. Not a cloud in the sky, and no wind. My third try. First was with family, they turned back, next a friend he wanted to turn back, so I decided to solo. Thanks to Bob who I met on the trail for the support and direction to reach the summit. Parking lot to summit and back in 11 hours.

Day hike  Sucess!

Accidentally came up the forth face and hit some class 3 rock - nothing too dicey, though. Beautiful mountain meadows on the way up and spectacular views from the summit. Car to car in 11 hours.
