| Part of a three day backpacking trip with Ol' Walsher. Left the Horseshoe Meadow Trailhead and headed up over Cottonwood Pass to the PCT and down to Soldier Lake. The next day we hiked up the back (west) side of the New Army Pass Trail and cut over to Old Army Pass and picked up the trail to the summit. Managed to (slowly) drop down Old Army Pass with our ice axes and camped at Cottonwood Lake #5. | ||

| My first 14'er. I remember a short exposed section coming down Old Army Pass, but much better than heading up and over to descend the New Army Pass. A friendly group setup at the base of Old Army Pass invited us to stay for a wine and cheese happy hour, much appreciated after a long day. A great trip. | ||

| Lots of good hard neve on Old Army, we went up central chute with ice axe and crampons and had to tunnel thru the cornice at the top, Scary after we saw from above the huge crack between cornice and the snowfield above. The rest was an enjoyable snow slog to great views at the summit. | ||

| In August Pat Brenan and I climbed on the cliffs north of Cottonwood Lake #4. We climbed the second prominet orange pillar from the west.(near old army pass) We climbed 4 pitches on the right side of this beautiful orange granite buttress. We topped out on the plateau south of Mt Langly and decended down old army pass. II 5.8 *** | ||

| Enjoyable dayhike out of Horseshoe Meadow. The Cottonwood Lakes area is beautiful. The climb from Army Pass wasn't as sandy as I'd feared, and the scrambling up to the summit plateau was more interesting than I expected too. | ||

| Beautiful area. Climbed the chute next to New Army Pass by chopping foot and handholds in the snow (no crampons). After heading back from the summit, we descended the west side of the pass, met up with the PCT, and took Cottonwood Pass back to the car. A memorable trip. | ||

| A much better dayhike than I'd expected. Very scenic. I was racing the weather the entire way and reached the summit just as the clouds converged - no view. | ||

| I started at the trailhead about 1 mile down the road from the top campground. I started at 7:43 and took New Army Pass. I arrived at the summit at 15:17. Passed a couple on way up. Crystal clear cloudless day. Fire/smoke in Rock Creek Canyon 242 degrees and 8 miles from summit. Took same route back. Ran down from New Army Pass to road-great trail for running. Arrived at the road/end at 19:18. | ||

| Completed a day-hike starting from Long Lake over New Army Pass starting at 8.30am. Found the northern path to the base of Langely easily and trudged up the base to the rock scramble which was ascended without trouble. Worked our way east to the summit (12.30p.m.) where a nice couple were exiting for the descent. My friend arrived 30 minutes lates on the summit. Took pictures and marvled and the drop-off on the Northern and Eastern portions of the mountain. The weather cooperated entirely. It was sunny, mild in temperature, and cloudless. We made it back to our tent after 3 hours of descent. We were exhausted but happy to have summited our first 14k peak. | ||
