14er #7 Beautiful day and a mellow climb. Went directly north from Army Pass and followed trail until it dead-ended into some boulders on SE face, avoiding the summit plateau. With a litte route-finding, was able to scramble on class 3-4 rock to the plateau. 12 hours car-to-car. Would have been faster if I didn't have a killer flu. Oh well.

Great day! Day trip from the Cottonwood Lakes Trail Head. 12 hours round trip. All was easy until the last two hours back to the trailhead. Sore feet. 21 miles does add up fast on the feet! LOL Recommended 1st 14er for anbody looking to try. Nunz

The first time we hiked to the uppermost lake below Old Army Pass, spent the night, then arose early the next morning. The ascent was fairly easy, though I was suffering a bit from the altitude--I'd just come up from sea level.
It was freezing and windy up top, but clear--one of those days where you could see for miles!
Yesterday Dan and I hiked over New Army Pass and up the same route from our camp above High Lake. It was very cold and clear--five degrees F that morning. We saw two herds of Bighorn Sheep--once on the way up and on the way down, two adult females with two young ones! We hiked out to Cottonwood Lakes trailhead early this morning in a snow storm.

Dayhiked with Balajisv and Shri. Pushed off the winter route by a cornice but got back on 500 ft. below. A long day that ended in headlamps.

Spectacular weekend and weather. Pretty easy route and amazing views, wow! Several routes to take but a nice little trail directly after the sign for Sequoia (to the right/north) was a lot of fun. Very active birds living among the rocks, but no idea what they were.

Dayhike from Horseshoe Meadows. Went past the uppermost Cottonwood Lake and ascended the bowl N of Army Pass. Great cl 2 scramble, but the top was blocked by a 30 foot wall of snow. Since I didn't have an axe, I opted to climb the steep wall adjacent to it. It was pretty exposed 4th class, but not too hard with plenty of holds. From there, its the standard slog up the summit. Tagged Cirque enroute back to the cars and descended via Army Pass.

Beautiful day to climb Langley! This was my first 14'er so it was a special day :) Me and one hiking partner started at Cottonwood Lake #4 around 8:00 am, climbed up Old Army Pass, headed up to a red sandy saddle at about 12,000', dropped our backpacks, and dayhiked to the top. It took us awhile to find the route up the last 800' or so... There are lots of trails and it's hard to find one that's doable! Beautiful view from up there, expecially looking north to Whitney! Also lots of flowers blooming including sky pilot. Headed down around 3:30 pm and picked up our packs and then made our way down to Upper Soldier Lake. Saw 5 other people headed up or down that day.

Day hiked from Cottonwood parking lot, 3:30am - 2:30pm with plenty of time on the summit and socializing along the trail. Beautiful views from the summit and along the way. Old Army is definitely the way to go. Once reaching the top of Old Army, head North (right), don't keep going straight or you'll lose altitude by the time you realize you are no longer on target for the summit. The summit from Old Army was the most tiring part...that Damn sand and scree makes for slow travel. There are a thousand different trails up the summit (follow which ever one you like or make your own) , the further to the east (right) the more technical the climb.

I and four buddies hit the trail head at 5:30 a.m. We agreed on a turn-around time of 2:00 p.m. Two of us bagged out early (at 12K' and 13K') due to altitude affects. I was the last to summit at 2:01 ;) and we walked briskly back to the pass under intermittent hail and rain. Able to glissade down the last 200' of lower army pass above the lake. Back to the car by 8:00p.m.

From the Ashram,(church) followed the unmaintained trail to Tuttle Creek Canyon. At the end of the cayon by the waterfalls and you can see the NE Chute half filled with snow. I ascend the chute and scramble (class 3/4) to the summit. Descended the East Face and then rock skied down some no-name chute to Tuttle Creek Canyon, and back to the church for some praying.

Few snow patches on way up to SE face. Found easy class 2-3 route up.
Very windy and cold.
Couple snorts of Knob Creek and we were out of there.
Total RT time from Lake 3 ~ 5 hours.

Route Climbed: Army Pass Date Climbed: August 3, 2005I made it on my second attempt. I tried a year ago but turned back when I found myself in some boulders that I couldn't figure out how to get past.
