Mt Lola Trail environs  Sucess!

We were able to drive quite a ways toward the summit of Mount Lola along a rough road that ran more or less parallel to the trail. It was a pleasant ridge walk from Pt 8944 north of the peak to the summit. This was part of a trip with fellow Cohpers to climb various county highpoints in the Tahoe region.

Mount Lola Trail  Sucess!

Hiked up in the the afternoon with my wife, starting from the trailhead. There is a dirt road that goes up quite far but the trail only touches it a couple of times; most of the route is a hiking trail. We were happy to find snow still on the east shoulder and above the NE bowl. We had a good camping experience at Findley Camp on Jackson Meadows Reservoir, which is very close to English Mountain.

Snowy ascent  Sucess!

Continuous snow after the first half mile of the trail. Took the snowboard to the summit and snagged a couple turns on the way down. Tons of snow for almost June.

Mt. Lola Trail  Sucess!

Tagging another OGUL peak (and didn't realize that the county highpoint was also up there, so I'll likely be heading back at some point.

Summit was nice, the trail was fairly noninteresting- all under tree cover and everything had long since dried out this summer.

Pics are here.

Complete solitude on Labor Day weekend  Sucess!

Hiked from the trailhead on Henness Pass Road. Didn't see a single car on my way in or out, not a soul on the mountain in or out, which surprised me on this long weekend. Hiked cross-country to the Sierra County highpoint on the north ridge. Instead of hiking back up to Mount Lola on the way back, I sidehilled through the talus bowl on the southeast side of the peak and climbed past a small snowfield en route back to the trail.

Very enjoyable outing, amazing clear views in all directions, solitude was very nice. Very warm, almost no wind, perfect conditions.

Oh Lola  Sucess!

Hiked up from Perazzo Meadows via the Cold Stream trail. What glorious views from this humble summit! Then on to Lola North and down the wonderful north ridge cross country. I love this uncrowded part of the Sierra.

Great dayhike! Windy and cold with patches of snow. Followed the ridge to the north before returning crosscountry.

Mount Lola Trail  Sucess!

Relatively straightforward hike to the summit. We encountered a mountain biker at a surprisingly high spot on the trail--I'd be very impressed if he biked all the way to the summit.

Mt. Lola Trail  Sucess!

Took the day off work to bag two county highpoints with Sady. Ended up driving a PG&E worker out who got stuck with his 4WD. Drove him out to Nyack. All in all a cool hike with some cool views of the Sierras. I will be sure to go back. Also did Lola North.

Mt. Lola Trail  Sucess!

Nice and easy hike to the summit from the Mt. Lola Trailhead. Super gusty winds at the summit almost knocked me over a few times. Tagged Lola North then headed cross country back. Didn't see another soul.

Beautiful Day

Moderate climb on a beautiful Monday. Didn't see anyone else the whole day. 5.5 hours start to finish, with a 20 minute rest at the summit.

Solo Trip  Sucess!

My first real solo peakbag. I saw 1 person in 10.7 miles. Good hike, 40 MPH gusts at the top. Also bagged Mt. Lola North, then X-countried east back down to the trail.

Via Mt. Lola Trail 08.19.06  Sucess!

Just a touch of snow - stunning views, much solitude. Couldn't get Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" out of my head... "her name was Lola... she was a showgirl..." made me want to lobby to change the name of "North Lola" to "Mt. Rico". Register almost full - bring a steno sized notepad if you're planning a trip here soon.

Mount Lola  Sucess!

Fled the heat (100+ F) in Reno up to the mountains for a hike to Mount Lola. There is still plenty of snow above 8400 feet, enough to lose the trail near the ridge, but it was no issue to go around or over the snow. It was partly cloudy a bit hazy to the South around Lake Tahoe, because of the unusually high monsoonal humidity and possibly smoke from wildfires, but we could just make out Lassen Peak on the horizon, 94.6 miles away NNE. The wildflowers were out in force, especially in Cold Stream Meadow. This has been one of my favorite hikes since moving to Reno.

Nice short afternoon hike from White Rock Lake after climbing English Mountain in the morning. There are way too many ATVs out there.

What should have been an easy hike was made more difficult by booze and food from the night before. In the summit register from 8/17/05 it said "Lion Kill just off trail, be careful". A few snow fields still visable.

Route Climbed: Mt. Lola North Direct and North Ridge Traverse Date Climbed: 2 July 2005  Sucess!

A longer day than expected, mostly because of more snow than expected (ie: more than "none"). Last 400 vertical feet on Lola North was a hairy snow slope in hiking shoes (not even boots) and fingers for ice axe. Last visit to Lola North was 2 weeks ago, at least two other groups summitted Lola proper today, braving endless snow field crossings. So much for July!
